I guess I just don't understand choosing convenience to shopping and entertainment over safety.

@AnneC : I live near Bradley and have never felt unsafe, and it's nice to live in a diverse area where I can walk to a myriad number of restaurants and events. If I ever thought I lived in an area that was unsafe I wouldn't have raised four children here, as any parent would agree with.

Perception is not reality.

Because of the job. Two more years and we will be deciding if we should stay or pack it up. Might stay another 5 years total...or not. We'll see.

This is not home for me though. Never will be, although I do like the area. Peoria is nothing to look at but it's all so different than the Southwest. Love the rivers, the rain, the trees...

I moved to Peoria when I enrolled at Bradley. I have also lived in Italy, England and Brazil and have always come back to Peoria. Peoria has a lot to offer for the size of the city. Sure, I get frustrated with the city council and the mayor with their stupid decisions, the condition of our roads and the development of vdown town. We have (and had) some very good golf courses that don't cost an arm and a leg to play. Neither I nor my family has ever felt threatened or unsafe while living in Peoria.

I love Peoria because it's home. Peoria allowed me to be a Y-Rat , Indian Guide , Little league baseball at the Christian Center, Judo at the Ymca , Boy Scout . Worked at all the Kerasotes theatres (sp) in town , volunteer for the Special Olympics , be a security guard at 301 s adams for 18 yrs during the time the jefferson hotel was taken down and the civic center was built. Remembering past Mayors of Peoria , Obrien , Carver , Maloof , Neumiller . Peoria just has all of my Memories , it is my life. That is just some of the things that makes me love Peoria. (2 b continued) luv Ya

I've lived in Peoria for 38 years and have never heard a gunshot here. And I've spent considerable time working for a business right by Harrison Homes.

@jimthompson Come sleep in the East bluff for a week. I am sick of you you people who have no freakin clue trying to tell those of us who live in the green zone it isn't that bad because you spent 9 to 5 Monday through friday next to a bad area. An 8 year old shot in the head and killed 4 blocks from my house, A guy waiting for the bus shot and killed at 6 in the morning 4 blocks from my house 2 blocks straight behind me a guy shot in the leg. guy killed 6 blocks away in July, And the 2 kids shot on Monday. Are the bullets Miracleing them selves into people?

I live 2 blocks away from Taft homes and I still love Peoria. Across the street down the street a couple of blocks away there are shootings and killings going on. I am glad there are areas in Peoria that don't have this violence going on. I have worked in Taft homes and Harrison different hours of the day were there times that it was scary yes there was but that's life. We all can find wrong when we look for it but there are great things in Peoria that in some places don't exist.

No snark intended, and I don't want this to devolve into a "everything that is wrong with Peoria" thread.

@AnneC :

This is what @AnneC don't want this thread to become where is the positive.

I live 6 blocks north of MJH and have an entirely different experience of the East Bluff. I have lived in various parts of Peoria. I lived in Park East, Vinton Highlands, 5200 & 4800 blocks of North Knoxville, on Sheridan near Main and on Douglas a couple blocks south of Columbia Terrace. I lived in three different East Bluff locations before I bought my home. I really like walking in Glen Oak Park and Springdale Cemetery. I like having family owned restaruants & grocery nearby. I like that we have Heartland Community Clinic close even though I don't go there. I sleep in the East Bluff seven days a week and sleep quite soundly. I love the old architecture that can be found in many parts of Peoria. I feel at home and am quite content in my little corner of the world.
