I have a love hate relationship with Peoria. I love the fact that I had a great childhood here and got to meet people from all walks of life. Being around people from every part of society taught me a lot about life and how to work and socialize with others, etc. I had great work opportunities at one time here. I hate how we (i.e. City leaders) are so backwards with their decisions and how my job opportunities are slipping away.

I am looking to leave Peoria eventually for bigger and better opportunities.

This song has always reminded me of P-Town.

I like being 7 mins from work and my kids having a diversity of friends.
I grew up in a small town with a lot of small minded people. I never wanted that for my kids. Peoria offers the diversity I wanted.

Stella is a smart lady. That's why she married me, lol. We don't want to isolate our kids from bullies, thugs, crime and cultural diversity. That is why they go to Peoria Public School. They need to learn to deal with it because that is reality. There is no private "real world" when they get out of school. We can afford private school, but education is more than books. The teachers are just as committed to the students in public schools. It's the student who has to want to learn, and the parents who keep them in line.

And while I'm at it, John Wetterauer (former principal of Charter Oak) is one of the most honorable men I've ever known. Thank God Grenita Lathan is gone.

@leslie110 I've found throughout life that many people think moving will fix their problems. Most have the same problems everywhere they go. Almost like their problems are internal.

@jimthompson Agree with that statement. I refer to it as a "geographic fix"

I have too many friends in Peoria to want to move away now. I love going to the festivals along the riverfront or Bradley games and seeing my friends. I grew up in a small town and have no desire to go back to that type of lifestyle.

Good thing about living in Pekin, I can still do those things, and not have to hear gun shots every night

@HipKat:
That's how I feel about living in Chillicothe.
I'm not trying to bash anyone's choice of where they live. I grew up in one of the more dangerous cities in this country.
I guess I just don't understand choosing convenience to shopping and entertainment over safety.
