Illinois update on COVID-19

First, PLEASE keep comments based on topic of thread. No name-calling or disputes please. Thank you.

2 things to note here: There were 60 less new cases announced today than yesterday. Hopefully that decrease will continue.

2nd, the Governor gave out many stats about how much PPE he requested from the Federal Government's Strategic Reserve. And how much was received. Video not available yet. This is the IDPH press release, but not what the Governor detailed.

@DennisinMH : I hope the trend continues, but if they're not testing everyone with symptoms, it's really hard to know if the number of cases is actually going down. I guess this shows the number of severe cases is going down, at least.

Here is the latest IDPH release

www2.illinois.gov/Pa ges/news-item.aspx?R eleaseID=21300

330 new cases (ouch) 3 more deaths, cases now in 35 counties.
Well, can't hide under a rock, know it's going to get worse before it gets better.

we have a very wealthy (by world standards) very mobile society with HUGE metropolitan areas crowding a lot of people in a little space. We also dropped the ball on early testing and social distancing measures in those metropolitan areas.

Look at the numbers in metro areas versus the rural areas. Look at New Orleans post Mardi Gras. They are now the fastest growing area in the country virus-wise.

People need to practice common sense. Unfortunately, a lot of people now are sadly lacking in common sense.

US Army Corps of Engineers is working to convert McCormick Place In Chicago into a 3000 bed hospital by April 24. Plans are to divide it into 3, maybe 4, sections for various levels of care ranging from mild to critical care

Mayor of Aurora and the Aurora Chief of Police tested positive for virus..

@tntrecycling : I think we really did drop the ball on this..we knew the virus was in China..and spreading..the guy in the White House was told about it as early as December..did nothing...January came..did nothing ..too busy dealing with the impeachment..by the end of Jan ..first of Feb he was telling Americans it was nothing..would go away when the weather got warmer..in the mean time..it's spreading like crazy in the state of Washington..and we are told that basically, you're not going to get it unless your over 60 and if you do..it's not that big of deal..finally we get to March and here were are keeping our distance...And probably not doing that well...Let's face it..We are American's ..and we don't like being told what to do..period..we like our freedom to be able to do what we want..I have a friend that is an infectious disease doctor..he was sent to Atlanta on Monday to help out..He had 4 patients on Monday..2 were going to make it..the other 2 were critical ...he got another one yesterday, in critical condition..he says nothing they have to give the people are helping..he says all the meds are crap..I don't think we have peaked yet.

A 102 year old woman in Genoa, Italy has recovered from the virus. Researchers and Drs. are extremely intrigued by it.

Tried getting the IL website on coronavirus; must be shut down, getting warning about hacker trying to get my info, or unsafe to proceed. Hmm. Decided to proceed. Here is link to IDPH press release, but advise caution as well if you get same message I did.

At least the number of new cases has decreased.

Lots of postings on FB praising Pritzker's daily updates; even those who don't agree with some of his Democrat policies.

@DennisinMH : The website came up "clean" for myself this AM (3-28-20). A number of governors across the US are doing a great job with getting the info daily, Gov Pritker is one of them.

Western Illinois University has an active GIS program, they've pulled together an Illinois COVID-19 map:
wiu-gis-center.maps. arcgis.com/apps/opsd ashboard/index.html# /8ef833c7ed254f

Click on the center bubble for each county to get a detailed breakdown (if they have a case). The data is updated daily not real-time, so there is lag between what we read from a local health department and when the data is pushed out from Springfield and the CDC.

@craftywoman : Well if the place where it started was to stop people from leaving or test them before they left. I would think things would be much different.
Blame Trump for not locking all of us up and stopping travel. I have never seen a president challenged in so many ways.
I don't care about Trump other than he is our president. Wonder what people will complain about with the next president.
