Once again, without having a clue about what you're talking about, you automatically the smartest person in the room. Well, except to the rest of us.

The police department are public servants, my taxes pay their salary.

I have great regard for law enforcement and want them to be held to a high standard. Particularly when it comes to the use of deadly force.

@joepyeweed

they also pay taxes, so a similar argument could be made that they are self employed.

@AV8R

Have you ever had a conversation with someone by just stating your thoughts and opinions without resorting to insults?

In a democracy, we need to always question the use of deadly force. If we don't question it, then we live in an authoritarian state and not a democracy.

@AV8R

If the taxes they pay equaled their salary and benefits, then you could say they were self employed.

I suspect there are policemen who are independent contractors, not municipal employees? You could call them self employed, except their contract is still tax payer funded.

I am trying to find exactly how the teacher subdued the student and I haven't been able to find anything.
My guess is she had the element of surprise and was able to tackle the student from behind. I don't know this for sure, but I find it hard to believe she just ran straight at him.

So, until they come out with her master plan... I will hold off on her training the PD.

It was a tongue in cheek suggestion.

Every situation is different.

This guy, suicidal, may not have given the police any choice but to kill him. Even so, we still need to ask the tough questions to ensure deadly force was justified.

When we stop asking questions and demanding high standards from our police, then we become an authoritarian state.

frequently, but I'm not a doormat. In fact, I asked what you would have done differently, but you never answered. You've had 90 minutes to come up with an action in response to an event that the officers on scene had seconds to react to, and yet you haven't. But you're right there in your swivel chair with criticism.

I find the standards of the police department to be outstanding. They make hundreds of arrests every month with nothing more than the use of verbal judo and open hand control techniques, which speaks highly to their de-escalation training. In this event, I find it tragic that a young criminal made a series of terrible decisions that ultimately led to his demise at the hands of police officers who would have rather he just walked out with his hands in the air, than with a gun in his hands. I will commend the police department for their high standards in marksmanship however.

There is always something positive to say. It's just you never say it.

I am not a cop, I have not been trained in such matters, so I would never attempt to answer that question.

But that does not mean I can not question those who should be trained to apprehend a suspect without killing them, particularly a suicidal one.

have you ever went and asked about their training? Ever inquired about the Citizen's Police Academy? Or do you just come on PDC right after a shooting and ask your question in the heat of the moment, then fade away until the next shooting?

You can have the last word.

Well if you are going to rob someone....

Don't kick in someone's house. Don't hit the gas station or fast food place. Retail theft? Oh Puhleeeeeeze.

If you are going to rob someone, man up and rob a bank. Step up. Go large or go home.

So... a thumbs up for manning up? Enjoy your time in prison.

I had recently read an article that said a large majority of police departments do not include de-escalation training in their programs. I wonder which local police departments do?

The Police Department will conduct a full investigation. Then hopefully the truth will come out. It sure sounds like the bank robber put himself in a very dangerous situation. And he paid the price. I have to believe that Police are trained in this kind of situation. However it is not a few message board people to decide anything, let alone get in arguments over.

@joepyeweed Why would they worry about deescalating when if they shoot and kill they will NOT serve jail time and just get paid time off. All they have to do is use the magic phrase" I felt in fear for my life".
