@PeoriaDotCom I don't know why, but from the very beginning, debates here, almost regardless of the topic, always seem to turn ugly. Why is that? Is this something that happens at other city.com you own? Geez, people read between the lines, name call, take shots at ones intelligence or political or sexual preference. And there always seems that there is always someone who shows up, stirs the pot and leaves. I just don't get it.

@ChefKevin
Same here, and I totally agree.
The other sites I run are more civil...but I don't think it's because Peorians are any different than any other City-ans....I think it comes down to ingrained community norms that have developed over time, that are very hard to break once they're in place.

@leslie110 If I look at the most recent group of posts, I see a lot of good, informative, local stuff -- maybe things are getting better.

When there was controversy, everyones skin got too dam thin and everyone was offended by everything.

@BABA :

That's the trend of the new generation. Look at all the college students who were "offended" by simple chalk art on the sidewalk that said "Trump 2016"

They cried to the chancellor and demanded a safe space. Are you fricking kidding me? They're gonna fall apart like K-Mart tennis shoes when the real sh@t hits the fan in this country.

I admit I don't know for sure about Reddit, but I thought FB didn't open "to the masses" until 2007 or so. Until then, only for college kids?

I would think that keeping posts categorized would help new people to join this site if they weren't inundated with political and religious posts on the very first page they browse. Basically the "front page" should be all the general, Peoria-centric posts with the other more antagonistic posts in labeled folders. Now it seems like it's fine for every post about the most mundane local update to turn into name-calling, rage inducing treatise of someone's personal belief system. Used to be that if it wasn't in the "Religion" or "Politics" folder, you had to keep it sane. Now it just reads like a free for all which I imagine puts off a lot of would-be commentators to just not join. My dad literally joined this site because "he likes to read all the fighting". I think that sums up what this site is. Also for all the "moderating" going on for the page, there are two specific users who really bring the whole site down and if you are all for being inclusive and welcoming to everyone, then you will have to suffer the consequences of allowing the few to ruin it for the many. It's my opinion that people come to this page with the intent to argue and that is why no one comments on the regular everyday posts, too boring. No chance to fight about it, forget it!

Where are you from?
Why are you here?....

Those were just a few of the questions I got hit with.

@Whit :

I have four super-awesome PDC tee shirts left over from a few years ago. Have the beautiful logo on them & they are freshly packaged. All size L. We can use those as posting prizes.
