No one is saying that all kids with birth defects should be aborted.

A friend of mine gave birth to her baby with a dnr issued before the birth. It lived for a few hours. Should they have been mandated to send it to neo-natal icu and keep it alive artificially, and if so for long? Do you think they murdered their baby?

These decisions are individual family decisions. No one else's.

I have a brother and a sister who are buried next to my grandparents. One was stillborn, the other born alive but only lived a few hours. They each were given names, baptized, and given decent burials.
Vastly different from murdering them in utero, then selling their body parts.

No, even if you don't believe in God, it's the difference between extermination, and letting nature take its course.
The facts are clear: before an abortion there is life (heartbeat, blood circulation, etc.), separate and unique from the mother (often different blood type). After an abortion, (crushing vital organs, dismemberment, or poisoning), the being is dead. If it isn't human, then it isn't human "tissue" either. Why is it ok to kill that being, but not a preemie?

It's legal, and it was your family's personal choice. You may argue that they felt it was the ONLY choice, but it was THEIR choice. Thta is why. The could have, if they wanted to, gone a different route. They didn't. That's called a personal choice.

I've stated before, my very good friend's nephew had a baby with no brain and their church told them the right thing to do was to let nature take it's course. The nephew and wife couldn't cope. No way in hell am I EVER going to decide that for someone through goverment policy. Too bad, Michael. You are don't have an option but to know your baby will be dead as soon as "nature takes it course" moments after your wife has to labor the birth. Don't bother painting the nursery.

Fine, if that's what they decide to do. I will just never force that upon anybody.

My brother and sister died in the early 1960's, so no, there wasn't another legal "choice".
You didn't answer my question:
Why can we murder in utero, but not a preemie?

Because its not murder. A fetus is not a baby. The only thing that defines when life begins is religion. And religions have different interpretations of when life begins. And this country has freedom of religion. If one religion defines life at birth, and another defines life at conception, by forbidding abortion on the basis of murder means you are imposing your religious beliefs on to some one else's personal private decision.

@joepyeweed:
So "life" only begins when a human leaves the birth canal? Regardless of how long it's been since conception? A 12 oz. preemie, born at 22 weeks, is a "baby", but a 22-week old still in the womb is a "fetus" that can be dismembered without conscience?
Please explain to me...using science...how this is so.

Anne, that answer depends on the individual's religion or beliefs. I'd rather the govt not dictate which religious rules I must follow.

These so called personal choices do come with consequences. No matter how its look at its a life. I remember a article where a mother was killed in a car wreck. They didn't know she was pregnant yet her unborn child is still alive today. Her parent say that the child is just like there daughter that died.

I know what I believe. I don't need my govt to decide for everyone. I decide for myself.

If you vote then you feel your government needs to decide for you.

Wrong. Govt deciding = laws and intervention. Some politicians fight for less regulations. Ever heard the word "deregulation ". It's a real word.
