Edit: I know Elvis was still singing new songs on the radio up till he died in 1977, but my parents mostly listened to older (50s-60s) hits. They also liked the songs from American Graffiti. As for what I remember listening to from my brother: Osmonds, Billy Joel, Gary Numan, etc...."

Think I probably first heard it when she sang it on "The Dinah Shore Show" Decades later, while traveling for work, Patti Page was still doing concerts and she was appearing across the street from the hotel. When she sang it, the ovation was so loud and sustained she sang it twice. So, I guess it resonated with lots and lots of..."
