Re: National Guard and what does it mean?

"In DC, there were already 1,200 National Guards helping around the White House and other areas. Apparently that wasn't enough. Another 3,300 were called in from several states, including Special Forces units from Utah because they were getting ready to be deployed elsewhere. Why Special Forces units for the White House? https://www.yah oo.com/gma/questions-aris e-over-special-forces-gua rding-donald-trump-010605 207--abc-news-topstories. html..."
National Guard and what does it mean?

"National Guard and what does it mean? Recently there have been talks about the National Guard being deployed to various cities to assist with violence, looting, etc. As with many things, there seems to be a split between people saying "No way, don't do it, we don't want that" and "Yes, please, we need it." It's my understanding they would just be here "as needed" and then leave. On the surface, it seems like if things are bad, it makes sense to call in more help. However I don't have all the informati..."

"Is there a breakdown by state? Also, I saw this mentioned: - Change in non-farm payrolls: +2.509 million vs. -7.5 million expected and -20.687 million in April - Unemployment rate: 13.3% vs. 19.0% expected and 14.7% in April - Average hourly earnings month on month: -1.0% vs. +1.0% expected and +4.7% in April - Average hourly earnings year on year: +6.7% vs. +8.5% expected and +8.0% in April Do those average hourly earning numbers indicate these were mostly low-wage jobs added? I'm wondering if ma..."

"I may be in minority but I get the surcharge. Ate lunch at a local pub yesterday. No up charge on bill but they certainly have added costs. Tent rental and installation, wipes and sanitizer at every table, loss of parking/less customers, labor to clean after. Glad I'm not in the business. I'd be a mindless wreck..."

"I definitely don't think Virus surcharges should be added to checks or services. No one's fault it hit us. I would disagree with charges "Just because." However, if these charges are to cover the new expenses (like masks, having to revamp dining rooms, eliminating 50% of potential customers due to social distancing rules) then yes, I think this is necessary the same as many businesses had to add a fuel surcharge years ago when gas prices were so high. At the same time, I feel they sh..."
Re: Coronavirus vaccine likely to last "months" or best case not

"Question from someone who does not know much about medicine or vaccines beyond following the instructions on my little bottle of pills from Walgreens: Let's say somehow, through some sort of theoretical distribution channel, everyone in impacted areas was given a vaccine, and it did last for one year. Since the incubation period is said to be 14 days, wouldn't that cause the virus to simply die off? Or is that not how it works?..."

Considering the large numbers of people who are oblivious to the advantages (privilege) they receive but fail to recognize it in the context of their views of others.... Yeah awareness is VERY important. Without awareness, it is difficult to have empathy...."

"Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 2.5 million in May, and the unemployment rate declined to 13.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. These improvements in the labor market reflected a limited resumption of economic activity that had been curtailed in March and April due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and efforts to contain it. In May, employment rose sharply in leisure and hospitality, construction, education and health services, and retail trade. By contrast, employm..."
