The President (any President) has nothing to do with, and no real control over, the price of gasoline we pay.

@Emtronics:

Agreed. But then why did you make this comment:

"You mean like the almost $4 a gallon when Dubbya left office????"

I'm thinking it was in response to the comment about when Obama took office...when O took office is when W left.

Nope. Just more "blame Bush" mentality. Fact is, the ONLY time gas prices were near $4 during the Bush administration was for a 3-week period during the summer of '08. Average price was rarely above $3/ gallon during the Bush administration, and, as bn pointed out was well under $2 when "Dubbya" left. The price has consistently been ABOVE $3/gallon since April '09...3 months after Obama took office.

I thought we all pretty much agreed that the POTUS doesn't control gas prices.

@skutfarcus:

Attacking or threatening attacks on the Middle East sure isn't helping the prices. Seems odd that every time prices approach sub $3/gal he stirs up something and threatens attacks.

Remember by his own words he wants gas prices approaching or over $5/gal.

Yes. Just pointing out that Em's comment was a snarky remark to the contrary. AND that it was inaccurate, as well.

well, when O *took* office, isn't that the same as when W *left* office??!!

and it wasn't Em who made the presidency comment first.... I still say it was in response to the anti-O comment.

Paid $2.89 9/10ths in Chillicothe today. Made a trip to Alco, love that store, drove through the "business district" and came back to Peoria by way of River Beach Drive. Stopped a couple of pull-off areas just to stare at the river and relax. Took Detweiller through the park and on to Knoxville. Turned off at Prospect and came on home. Nice short road trip!

I like Alco too. There's one in Havana. That's a nice drive also.

....And after Hurricane Katrina but since gas was about a buck or so when Clinton was President, no wait, .50 a gallon when NIXON was President, I guess Nixon wins!

It was sarcasm. It shows the stupidity of people who think any President sets gas prices. Anyone with a sense of how things work, knows prices are set by the world market and the price per barrel for crude and the things that might affect that market in the future.

I just hang my head when someone blames Obama for the high gas prices even though when Bush left office, it was indeed $4 a gal. That wasn't entirely Dubbya's fault but I'd think that the unrest in the Middle East, caused by the invading of Iraq had something to do with high crude prices. So policies do have an affect on everything.

Oh and Anne C, there is pretty to blame Bush for. After all he caused the biggest melt down of our economy in history of our country on lies of WMDs, invaded the wrong country and disrupted a region in the Middle East that we are still paying for today. Don't forget he tripled the national debt and then left town. He had spent more time on vacation than any other President in History and yet people ***** and moan when Obama goes golfing.

I think, like the Alamo, Pearl Harbor, 9-11, we should never forget where the blame should be directed for the biggest crash and the worse terrorist attack on our country ever. It happened during the Bush Administration. Never forget!

@Emtronics:

This is true. But OTOH there is this meme going around FB touting all the great things Obama has done including about a 5K rise in the DOW. IMHO, Obama has about as much control over that as he (or anything other president) has over the price of a gallon of gas.

@Chef Kevin:

You can bet your *** if the markets were crashing, who would the Right blame????? The President and his policies set the tone for our economy and how we all do. Look at the Bush years. Tripled the deficit and yet no one on the Right was concerned about this massive debt. Then Obama takes office and inherits the mess and the debt and all of a sudden, the debt is horrible and will be passed onto our children's children. The Right went nuts on out of control spending. Please explain why Obama doesn't get credit for lowering the debt at a faster rate than any other President in History, saving our economy, giving healthcare to millions, and all the other stuff he has done, while the Right says Bush kept us safe. Why no credit to Obama???? This country is much much better off than it was when Dubbya went back to Texas.
