Thank you, bits, for what you are planning to do (and have likely done in the past). I think feeding people...body and soul....is one of the most Christ-like things we humans can do. I'm assuming you will not withhold the bag of food from someone who rejects your message of salvation. Offer both...let them choose which to accept.
I would join you, but I choose to serve the needy of the town I live in. Our church (St.Edward Catholic) has an emergency food pantry, and does a huge grocery give-away at Christmastime. I help with both of those ministries. I also am planning on helping at the Love-in-Action food pantry at the Assembly of God church down the street from St. Edward's. Food is given out there (to anyone who requsts it) every Friday afternoon.
I try to donate as much as possible to these ministries. I've found picking up loss-leaders (those super-cheap deals at supermarkets used to entice you to come to their stores) through the year makes my donation dollars go further. For example, every Friday Kroger offers a Friday freebie offer. You load it digitally onto your Kroger Plus card, and get that item for free on your next shopping trip there. The items are often products I don't use, but I "buy" them and donate them to the food pantry.
