@Biscuitsngravy

Another reason for this post could be to help break the stereotype that most African-Americans are druggies, thugs, or welfare recipients. (on that last one, I know more whites are low-income in Peoria County). There are many African-Americans who may not be business owners, but work in health care in many capacities, manufacturing (One of CAT's Board Members is African-American, if he's still on it) The CEO of Ameren is African-American, among other job industries, even if they aren't owners.

These are the role models African-Americans are trying to impress on the Black youth to show them their possible future besides carrying a gun, rapping about violence, or playing basketball. (Look what it took for Shaun Livingston to get where he is today)

Just my opinion, no more, no less.

We know which businesses are black owned in this city.

I am not part of the "we" in this statement.

"He didn't say anything that's not true." = Yes, you're right: his racist colors came through bright and clear in the words and tone of the message.

I'm disgusted.
This is exactly why Peoria has a big problem.

laundry mat

@Eastbluffbandit

The only laundry mat I know is on the floor of my laundry room. If you're speaking of a laundromat, you'll have to be specific and give me an address. Thank you.

Then again, there is one other meaning for "laundry mat". And if it's THAT meaning, you'll still have to give me an address....

So?? Sounds like a great name to me. I'd rather go to a place like that, than some other laundromats.

See how your offended by biscuit simply speaking about the reality of the situation and then you belittled me. Makes you simply a hypocrite. Have a nice day.

I was a homeowner on the East Bluff for 15 years. Yep, I'm a hypocrite. Uh huh, I hide from reality.

I too am a home owner. I regret my purchase every day for the last year as I watch my property value decrease by the day. It's isn't good here and very few admit it. The group's claiming to be helping this part of town only make excuses for horrible behavior until they themselves are affected by it. Then they themselves turn into the biggest crybabies in the world.

I've been here 3 and it's the worst decision I've ever made buying a house here, and that's coming from a guy who is on his 5th marriage saying that.

What I find really funny is @TheOneStopHomeShop is African American. Yet he ask the committee examples of successful AA owned.

Does this just say I only want to know who is African American and business only opened by African American.

How does this help the community.

I'm sorry that it has come to that. I really am. The East Bluff has some fantastic vintage/historic homes. Yet I have friends who feel the same way you do. And I do remember in the '90s when I could put one of my babies in a stroller and walk down Wisconsin Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue to visit a friend who lived on that street.

And the only noise was if the kids from White School were out on the playground. Yes, I've seen the changes. I only shopped at the Kroger on Wisconsin because I knew just about every worker in there. And they knew me.

Yes, it got to the point where the kids on bikes were making the drug deals in the Kroger parking lot for the older dope dealers in broad daylight, and I had to act like I didn't see it.

Yes, I acknowledge the problems. I know what the 3rd of July, and the 4th of July is like on the Bluff. Only people on the Bluff know what I'm talking about. HAHA!

Look, I don't know what the solution is. I think there are more than a few.
