I don't know who owns it now, but for many years, James Oliver owned University Ford, which used to be at the corner of University and War Memorial. Then it moved out to Pioneer Parkway, and became Finish Line Ford.

Also, I'm aware of several barber and beauty shops owned by African-Americans that have been around for quite awhile. Kelly, Allen, & Kelly had a barber shop right by PCCEO for many years until some of them retired. The Allen (can't remember his first name) has a son who went on to become a Grammy Award winning music producer.

Is Rhythm Kitchen owned by an African-American? I can't say for sure.

A man named Ron Davis has a successful video production business, but he does it all himself. He shoots church services, cable TV programs, and more. I've known Ron for over 15 years, used to help me shoot video for JT's Bourbon Street LIVE until I was downsized from the agency in 2013.

I love the popcorn place on Sterling (old Egg Roll Express)! I never look at the name, but they have nice flavors of caramel corn! Very yummy! I believe it is owned by an African American couple!

I don't see black or white. I just see a successful business owner (or not).

Motion and Moves Dance Academy on Prospect, just north of Forrest Hill.

Saw them rehearsing in the parking lot one day. Stopped to chat with one of the instructors. GREAT PLACE!

Yes, it is for sale. If one could afford the purchase of the business plus pay the rent... My two cents is the non restaurant side can't be worth it. I never see a lot of people in there for catering, etc.

Biscuitsngravy F.Y.I. I recently attended a City facilitated, Economic Development Committee Meeting, (in response to the City's recent negative, 24/7 Wall Street designation) where most on said committee struggled to come up with examples of successful AA owned, Peoria businesses. Additionally, the question was asked, how do we go about identifying said businesses; thus the reason for my query. The City's ED meeting was facilitated by department head, Chris Setti, and Dr. Leslie McKnight. If there is a race card, or a game, being played here, I can assure you that I, Sir (or Mam), am not the dealer thereof. I plan to set up a meeting, I will pass along your response, to the other stakeholders. It seems obvious, based upon your reaction, how Peoria got into this predicament. B and G: Did you have a response to the thread, OR are you just baiting me? Either way; I'm chanting for you.

@TheOneStopHomeShop

You'll pass along my response of what's the point in naming black owned businesses? Okay. As long as your truthful and say that you look for divisions amongst race just to have the same,tired argument. We know which businesses are black owned in this city. You can usually tell by the product or the name. (Bbq, "bling bling"). You want more diversity in this city,you start by telling them to do something new.

I've been on that non restaurant side for a few events ... and it was packed... I do wonder If they have enough events to cover its cost

Wow, I'm speechless. I thought we were in 2017. Stunned doesn't even begin to describe my reaction to these words.

These words only prove what I've told all my friends: "Out of the 10 cities I've lived in, Peoria was by far the most racist."
