Leave the structure but tear down the buildings. Put the park up there. That or offer valet service or shuttle service. They can spend hundreds of millions of dollars on stuff they have no clue to if it will work but are dragging their feet on a proven success that (as far as I know) we tax payers don't have to shell out additional tax/cash to (sorry) help keep it afloat. Maybe they are waiting for the Julia Belle Swain to be restored and spend a mind boggling amount of cash to get it back to Peoria. That scenario wouldn't surprise me in the least.

The structure is the problem. It is falling apart. The structure has to be torn down. This smacks of a guy trying to extort money out of the city to support a struggling business. Which most people here would be lighting their internet pitchforks for usually. Why the change?

There isn't a change. The city wants to destoy the parking lot that this business' customers have been using. No parking = no customers. He isn't asking for special treatment, or a handout. He's in talks with other cities who understand his needs, and are willing to work with him.

He should add an "amusement" to it, like launching drones from the top of the boat, aimed at Ardis' house.

Crossbow Asian carp harpooning cruises!! Watercannoning jet skiiers!! I think if he was losing money he would have "jumped ship" already. When the Civic Center whined the reason (at that time) they didn't have enough business was due to the lack of nearby parking, what did the city do? They got into the parking lot building business. Next they will fine the guy because his music is too loud since I can hear the calliope up on the East Bluff.

had a long term vision

Would be curious if this is still true. The area of the river by Bass Pro is unsuitable for a dock without substantial overhead with regards to dredging. There is a small stream right behind them that has a substantial delta.

The East Port harbor has to dredge annually because of the way the river flows. Yes all the harbors have to dredge occasionally but not to the degree that East Port has to.

When I lived on the riverfront I went to Hooters a few times a month because it was convenient and I liked their buffalo shrimp and grilled cheese.

They definitely have their regulars. Most of them were older men. And several of these customers would buy things for their waitresses outside of work. It was strip club lite. I know several of the waitresses had these men/customers pay their rent and car payments, among other things.

How sad is it that grown men spend their money on Hooters waitresses thinking it might lead to a legitimate relationship?

I could see it where Logan's and Granite city is They own the property and parking could become a parking deck with ease. Barges park there all the time deep water.

Remember Paradise was lost from Peoria to East Peoria. East Peoria wants to build for the future where Peoria is stuck.

cjsummers I have not been there but know people ho have been there a few times over the last few months. Each time there is clearly a smaller crowd there vs. past times and always seems they are out of a few items on the menu. They also drive past there just about every day. They told me the parking lot always seems to have much fewer cars parked there.

@billybob

The service is pretty lousy too... A bunch of us used to get together every other week and went there because we liked wings but disliked BWW. We'd order a ton of wings, and catch up on stuff, and always tipped well. Things progressively got worse and worse, even as regulars the attitude was "yeah, whatever" so we stopped going.
