Nice pic love the river. My brother live right by where you took the pic. There used to be a row of houses along there.

Years back when my wife and I were hunting for our first house, we almost bought one along River Road near Chillicothe on the inland side of the road (with railroad tracks right behind it). Though I love to be near water, the thought of having to deal with flood damage every couple of years nixed it for us.

My heart goes out to those that go through this and tough it out. At some point though, we have to quit pretending that building on flood plains is a sound idea.

Greg Horn, district engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation, laid out the choice that faced residents on both sides of the Meramec River on Tuesday.

“You all are going to have to decide what side of the river you want to be on before you go to bed tonight, because you’re not going to be able to go back and forth,” Horn said.

[...] “Alternate routes? There are really no good alternate routes,” Horn said. “Cape Girardeau is probably the closest way, so that’s a long way.”

Several years ago, some friends of ours were about to have a closing on a home they were selling on River Beach Road when severe flooding hit and the buyer backed out at the last minute.

The cost of Federal flood insurance is, like the water, rising and can easily exceed mortgage expenses. [1]

The intensification of severe weather events like flooding are increasingly being linked to Climate Change, particularly along coastal regions that not only are effect by intensifying tropical storms, but the threat of rising sea levels as well. [2,3]

At some point, flood insurance is simply going to be financially unattainable to the average homeowner and unsustainable by the federal government.

Most certainly do not look for any flooding/storm relief from the private-sector insurance protectorates of the GOP caucus in the U.S. Congress. Particularly as the present man-child PONTUS and anti-science Republicans work to disassemble both NASA's earth studies program [4,5] and cripple NOAA's weather satellite funding. [6]

But don't worry kids, because Ken Ham of " Answers in Genesis" and their " Creation Museum" in Kentucky has you covered with their state subsidized Ark Encounter, LLC! [7] I'm sure the entirety of the United States and every critter in it will have plenty of room to spare on that Love Boat.

The rain over here hasn't let up much.

My phone alerts are set up to an old-fashioned "aaaah-oooooh-gaaaah!" sound. I keep getting flood warnings: You'd think I had a Tin Lizzie in the house!

The flood warning is now extended to Sunday 12:30am.
