To recoup the cost of the styrofoam shells? Very small amount, so it's interesting they included that. I also notice that there are some changes from the original menu I saw and the take-out one here. If you dine-in, do you get a complimentary soup or salad with the meal? They also took off a 1/2 BBQ chicken dinner and replaced it with fried which was disappointing.

Lanestar, they said they were taking suggestions from their customers as to what they liked or didn't like. Maybe the BBQ chicken wasn't a crowd favorite.

I can't make out what the carry-out surcharge is, fifty cents?

@lanestar7 :

That's odd. I also had a laminated menu that said a cup of chili with a sandwich was $1, which is why I got one (and glad that I did!), but was charged $2, and the paper printed ones also said $2. I didn't argue, 2 bucks isn't bad, but I probably wouldn't have tried it otherwise.

The food was top notch and I will be back after they get some time to work out the quirks but for lunch in the Pioneer Park area, it's a little expensive beyond the occasional visit.

I attempted a takeout order here over the weekend and I would suggest giving them more time before you go. Without going into too much detail I left with a partial refund, several free consolation items and an hour less of my life. Nice people but very obviously their first foray into food service.

No...but I feel really bad totally dissing them because they were so nice! The pulled pork was the best item, ribs needed a steak knife and fork or about another 4 hours on the smoker, wings were completely charred but edible with the skin removed. Deep fried corn on the cob has been nixed from the menu, SAD.

@lanestar7 About the $.50 to go charge, was that per order or for the total order?
And I hope they are printing up their own menus. Seems like a lot of changes.

I didn't see my itemized bill so I'm not sure if it was added. I will consider it part of the money they refunded me though Emoticon A guy ordering the brisket too said he came in for the BBQ chicken and only went brisket when he saw the chicken had changed to fried. They might need to cool it a bit on the nonstop menu changes, being nimble to customer demands is one thing but daily deletions is not going to make many happy return faces.

I think these people need to get a business plan and stick with it for awhile. They have only been open for 19 days and have changed things, how many times?

@LinkRaygun FYI, If you are referring to Grandpa John's North University location (connected to Elliots), it has been replaced by Haddad's Restaraunt

I went to Pioneer twice in the last 2 days. Lunch yesterday and dinner tonight.

Food was really good. Had brisket, pulled pork and ribs.

But they have some minor things to work out.

We ordered garlic mashed potatoes and the waitress had to come back and tell us they weren't available during lunch. But I went for dinner tonight, ordered the same thing, and guess what? They were out of potatoes.

It makes me wonder -
1) did they lie to me yesterday during lunch?
OR
2) do they have the worst inventory management in the history of restaurants?
OR
3) both 1 & 2

How do yo run out of potatoes? Aren't they like 10 cents a pound and available everywhere?
