I don't see that the whole world has to change because of this person's decision.

The gov made this issue. He created it. That gov has decided to make this into something. That one person wanted to use the men's room and the NC gov stepped in and said no.

So, are you suggestion this person use the alley or hold it until he gets home? Because IMO that person should be able to use a public restroom. Period.

So, under this HB law, he must use the ladies room. Or break the law and use the men's. The purpose of the law was to address this demographic. Period. So, this isn't an exception to the rule. It IS the rule.

Ditch HB2 and adopt don't ask, don't tell, don't show.

Carguy, that was a stupid post. I definitely lean toward the liberal side of this issue, and CJ is on the conservative side but I don't think he's a jerk.

And I'm thinking of the practicality of this law. It's a stupid law. Does nothing to create a safe environment for any involved. Purpose was to push back the liberals and logistically it makes no sense.

I don't understand how people can think it's normal and not a symptom of a mental disorder ... there's no scientific basis for transgenderism.

If there is no science or solid research psychology, where do you get off calling it a mental disorder? According to the American Psychological Association "identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder" - www.apa.org/topics/l gbt/transgender.aspx

Fun fact: the Wachowski brothers originally wanted the character Switch in the Matrix to be a female in the physical world, and a male in the digital world (her residual self image). Warner Bros rejected the idea.

@cjsummers :

The world we live in is not black and white. Who gets to decide what is normal?

The animal kingdom is full of animals who vary from traditional gender or sexual roles, its not just in our species. Its just that our species analyzes, it, talks about it, and judges other people based upon our own personal expectations.

There have been many scientific studies that recognize gender and sexuality on a sliding scale between male and female.

And in order to qualify for sex change operation, there is a long (as in at least 1 year, maybe more) psychological evaluation process one must go through and one must live as the opposite sex for at least a year or two before you can surgically alter. Many trans don't surgically alter their sex organs, they just alter their outward appearance with hormones, plastic surgery, and dress accordingly.

It probably is a in a person's brain or hormones. New science about neurology, gender and sex develops every day. The brain is so complex, even neurologists don't understand much of what it does and how it works.

What most of us understand about gender is primarily a societal construct rather than biological certainty.

Just because someone's brain works differently than yours doesn't mean its a mental illness.

For a long time left handedness was considered a mental deformity, its even listed as sinful in the bible. Just consider transgender similar to left handedness. It is different, a minority, but its not bad or wrong. We use to force left handed people to write right handed, and now we don't.

If someone told you they were the President of the United States, would you believe them just because they said it?

Of course not.

All I'm saying is that if a person has male body parts, he is a male. That's an objective fact.

@cjsummers :

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with that. I personally am disagreeing with the mental disorder comment. If someone identifies as a male/female even when they have the wrong parts, why shouldn't we respect that? I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that same sex relationships don't work biologically with regards to reproduction, but so what? Likewise, we've figured out that interracial couples can have healthy smart babies. People are allowed to love whoever they want to love (assuming of course it's mutual) and there is no reason anyone should be criticized for it, whether it's considered "natural" by societies standards or not.

If someone identifies as a male/female even when they have the wrong parts, why SHOULD we respect that? Because it's pretty screwed up.

@VonsterPeo :

you should respect it because it's not hurting you or anyone else. to not respect it is just being stubborn, hateful and close-minded.
