Charlotte is a major banking center. It along with cos. in the Resesrch Triangle area have been extremely fertile ground for
jobs for new college graduates including MBAs and lawyers. In past years at they have typically received offers from NewYork, CA, and Seattle cos. They are graduates of Duke, UNC, Wake Forrest, NC State and other NC colleges. In past years, a great percentage of graduates stayed in NC. A great number of college graduates originally from NC returned to NC after they graduated from colleges in other states.
Not so this year at all. They left for othe states like PA, NY, CA and the Pacific Northwest where there are not laws like in NC but rather a very forward, innovative, progressive environment.
Wha makes the ACC decision today so important is that the ACC is headquartered in NC. The previous cancelations were significant and had a major impact. But the ACC decision will have an impact because other NC based cos.will follow unless the law is repealed.
So far the cancellations have totaled about $400 million impactng lost wages, hotel rooms, restaurants etc. On that money there would have been sales tax collected. NC will have to make that money up some way, probably impacting the very same right wingers that want the law kept. There is a price to pay for stupidity and a mind that is nailed shut
