I have found the less I read the Journal Star, the happier I am. There are a few good reporters there - Wessler, Kaergard, Vlahos, Hillyard, Kravets for the most part, but others there try to make news simply to report it.

I'm particularly annoyed at how they "changed" their commenting policy to make everyone register with a real name - then changed it back to release all the anon trolls to make vicious personal attacks against not only their valid registered commenters but their own contributors! I'd rather watch a **** fight.

If the PJStar folds the good reporters will land on their feet with other gigs. Cream always rises to the top.

I know I will take a lot of flack for this, but I will pay the price. I don't watch local news exept to see the forcast at 5:00AM.

I could get by with Flipboard and my digital subscription to the Washington Post , but I WOULD miss some of the local news of the JPStar.

I can't stand Mike Bailey or Luciano. Put a REAL editor with cajones and intelligence in there, along with a non-gutter scum local interest writer who's not drunk half the time and you'd have something worth reading.

@jannn1959 Not sure why anyone would give you flack over that. My favorite part of the Journal Star is the local page & the editorial page. Love reading Krauthammer in particular, and the local letters to the editor for the most part make me proud to be a Peorian. Every once in a while Bailey will be dead on as well. But just like a train wreck I tend to read the on-line comments and when you see how abusive they can be & how the staff tends to turn a blind eye it makes me want no part of it.

My favorite part of the Journal Star is the local page

@JnJ :

Which used to be pages.

I was at my parents house and picked up the paper - "where's the local section?" "It's inside Sec A." Sports was B and that was it.

I would gladly pay for an online subscription if there were things worth reading. Most months I don't even use up my 5 free stories.

I always tell those telemarketers that I will subscribe to PJS when Gatehouse leaves and the commitment to putting out good news product is restored.
