What shows & movies are you watching?

Fyre Fraud (Hulu)
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened (Netflix)
Two documentaries about a train wreck of a festival thrown by a rapper and a scam artist. It's everything that's wrong with the millennial generation.

You (Netflix; originally on Lifetime)
It's a guilty pleasure show about a stalker who gets his girl.

Escape at Dannemora (Showtime)
Series about a true prison escape that happened in New York in 2015. Directed by Ben Stiller and featuring great acting by Patricia Arquette and Benicio Del Toro.

Mike Judge Presents Tales from the Tour Bus (Cinemax)
An extremely entertaining history of country music (season 1) and funk (season 2) retold by those who lived it. Features short live performance clips mixed with animated stories and interviews.

Counterpart (Starz)
Espionage, spy thriller series with a sci-fi twist. What if our world unexplainably cloned itself and there was a portal between the two worlds?

Homecoming (Amazon Prime)
Julia Roberts stars in this psychological thriller with a Hitchcock vibe.

I have never subscribed to streaming services; it's been probably 20-25 years since I had HBO and/or Cinemax. I did have a 30-day free trial of Netflix last year, only to watch the reboot of "Lost in Space". Haven't looked to see if a 2nd season is coming; may consider Netflix subscription then, even though they're raising prices.

If you have Amazon Prime, you can stream via Amazon.

This is my set up:
DirecTV Now ($45/month; 100 channels with HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz)
Amazon Prime ($119/year)
Netflix (they allow multiple users on a single account; I use my parents account)
Hulu (99 cents a month)
CinemaHD (free app for everything else)

I use one Fire TV Stick ($20) and two Fire TV 4K ($30) devices. I have an Apple TV 4K that came free with my DirecTV Now subscription. I rarely use it.

Side note: TVs are very cheap nowadays. I picked up and installed a 65" 4K TV today for my parents. Total cost with the wall mount was $346 from WalMart. Picture looks great.

Amazon Prime has some newer movies right now that are pretty good:
Hereditary
Annihilation
Leave No Trace
You Were Never Really Here
Beautiful Boy

But these movies aren't for everyone. There's a reason you probably haven't heard of most of them.

I need to go back to On Demand and get caught up on Escape at Dannemora. I missed the first few episodes. I also need to renew my HBO Now through Amazon Prime so I can watch Real Time and True Detective, which both came back this week.

As far as can't miss series on TV, Gotham - the best made TV show ever, for it's genre and the new series Project Bluebook is really good.

Then there's the standard seasonal shows, Gold Rush and Gold Rush: White Water (Which is produced very well this year), Hell's Kitchen, et al and of course Rachel Maddow every night

@HipKat : I couldn't get into Escape at Dannemora, maybe cause I kept on getting interrupted while trying to watch it. The previews looked really good. So I'll get back to that one summer time.
I watch Project Bluebook, that's pretty good. True Detective I have recorded, but haven't watched it yet. Hoping it's better then the last one.
I love all cooking shows so I watch Hell's Kitchen, but my favorite is Top Chef.
Have you watched The Passage? Just started this week. From the shows you've listed l think you might like this one.

@Funnylady : I seen the commercials and it looks good, but I think I missed the first episode, so I'll have to find that one, then set it up to record

How does Project Blue Book compare to the late 70s Project UFO: en.wikipedia.org/wik i/Project_U.F.O. ? I remember just watching that earlier series in awe. Some of the sightings / encounters were scarier than heck at age 10. Sure it was Jack Webb cashing in on the box office success of Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, but each episode was supposed to be scripted from an actual Project Blue Book case.

I watched that, too, when I was a kid. Similar, from what I remember, but obviously updated. These are from the actual cases, too and at the end of each episode, they show the actual case notes with pictures.

@Patrick710 : Have you watched Man in the High Castle? Since we already subscribe to Netflix I'm not sure I'd get Prime just to watch it, but Comcast did recently add it as an app on XFinity.

@Funnylady : Season 3 of True Detective is off to a very good start. The first episode has three different story / time lines running from the investigator's point of view.

.. I've also been watching Wallander on DVD--the Swedish version with Krister Henriksson (with English subtitles).

@cjsummers : Interesting. Would you recommend it or the BBC's Kenneth Branagh version as a better starting point?
