Metro Ridership lowest for an inauguration in at least 12 years

www.washingtonpost.c om/news/dr-gridlock/ wp/2017/01/20/inaugu ration-2017-you

Metro’s ridership numbers from this morning illustrated what many riders were seeing: sparse crowds and less hassle than usual for an Inauguration Day.

By 11 a.m., Metro said 193,000 trips had been taken on Metro on Inauguration Day. By contrast, ridership for President Obama’s 2009 inauguration was nearly three times that: 513,000 trips by 11 a.m. Friday’s ridership was the lowest for an inauguration in more than 12 years, with 2005 figures edging out this morning’s by about 4,000.

@billybob 87,000 more riders today in Washington DC. Not to mention all of the marches around the country. Crazy that people are also marching in Paris and London.

60 million voters and almost 200 dead CIA agent background creates a great opportunity to lead the American people.

or to lie to them about something that is stupid on day 1.

She did lose the election but let's recap:

She got 3 million more votes.
3.5 million people came out today to protest him.
He has no mandate.
He will get everything he wants for the next 2 years.
I think he will lose the House in 2018.

@ricardo :

On inauguration day the metro stops surrounding the capitol were closed. People had to walk miles to get to the inauguration site -no exceptions. i would estimate i walked at least 20 miles that day

Metro stops were closed yesterday, too. We got on at the second to the last stop out on the orange line and it was already packed when we got on and as we got closer to town they wouldn't let more people on.

The metro stops closed for the inauguration were closed for security reasons as they were in sterile zones. Unlike yesterday, no station was ever closed due to crowds and not one train had to bypass a station because of the crowds whic, by the way, were much less than yesterday,

The subway ridership figures from yesterday are in and it was the second busiest day in history for the Metro system. Over 1 million rides were taken. Obamas 2009 inauguration is still the record holder by about 100,000 rides.
Yesterday's figures are double the number of riders on Inauguration Day, 2017.

The march yesterday also surpassed some long standing records at some cherry blossom festivals in past decades.

I can't get this comment out of my head. I think JnJ has nailed exactly why Trump won the election, despite her comment being in response to the march that leslie keeps bringing up, and billybob keeps cheerleading. The more I see and hear from the left in response to Trump's presidency, the more and more solidified behind him I become.

Interestingly, I didn't want him as the republican candidate, and was fairly vocal about it on this forum. Yet now, with the never ending cascade of protests, prognostications about nuclear war, loss of voting rights for women, etc. I find myself becoming more and more ardent of a supporter...and we're not even 3 days into his Administration.

I really feel the left is doing itself yet another disservice with this tactic. So shocked by the election, they are willing to shoot themselves squarely in the foot to show the world how mad they are, but in a few years when they need those feet to run...the self inflicted injury will prevent it. Just my 2 cents.
