@leslie110 Pfft, Leslie, I don't believe anything NPR writes anymore. They have been slacking in the truth-telling department more and more these last few years just to create controversy.
Besides, Oprah is a highly privileged black woman who doesn't see herself that way. She's delusional. I quit watching her show when she went "shopping" at Costco and couldn't believe you could buy toilet paper in bulk. Then she goes on to tell the audience that she can't stand to sleep on two day old sheets so she has them washed and ironed every couple of days. Yeah, she's really "suffering" and struggling being a black woman in this country. Pfft.
These days, there are more job opportunities for African-Americans than there ever has been and not just in Peoria. I know for a fact that the US government is currently hiring African Americans **only** in some departments. They will not hire anyone else until they have filled that quota.
In Peoria, an ICC education is free to District 150 graduates--FREE. For up to two years. Heck, my kids don't even get that privilege even though we live 5 miles away. You'd be stupid not to take advantage of that opportunity, no matter what color your skin is and what part of Peoria you live in.
