@billybob I know all of this,,,,,, People think they are right all the time.
Lease is your save ,,,,,,but when the owner wants the building for his pleasures well the best lawyer in town cant buy your same lease.

When you pay rent your always have that down fall.

I didn't feel the building was worth the rent money new Landlord wanted.

That's why I have not opened another store.

No way did we walk back at night.

@billybob :
I would walk down, but I would not walk back, not because of the dark, but rather because it is uphill all the way back!

Those stories started long, before Uber came to town. They go back to when it was the Pere Marquette.

As I said we were meeting friends there for dinner. We had a ride back from them. We also had a car in the garage at the hotel but since it was a perfect day we decided to walk.

Before Uber there were cabs.

Before I moved to Peoria, I would come to visit for work conferences and such. We would stay at the Pere or the Holiday Inn... before Rhythm Kitchen ever existed. But after the boat arrived, I remember lots of conference attendees cabbing it over to the boat. (or walking to big Als!) ....

@tntrecycling

In the case with Miss Vickie, the two nephews broke out in a fist fit among themselves in the restaurant. Miss Vickie had to call the police. That was the second time she had met them. How messed up is that getting into a fight in your tenants restaurant?

The first time was when they flew all night to check out the property. They found out in the morning about it and 12 hours later they were on a cross country flight.

@billybob Any way today I feel just like this and enjoy every day of life.

I do what I choose to do.

Owning requires a lot of insurance when people are involved.

Store was nice had a lot of items to sell new and used. Police would stop in regularly wish I did have the room for little coffee shop. It did what it was meant to do Took care of many who had just lost their homes, cloths and family's that have nothing. Nice to share with ones in need.

I've got a good quirky landlord story.

The owner of place my sister leased passed away. It was inherited by three of his children and none of them get along or talk to each other. So the monthly lease payment is now divided by three and three separate checks are written out to three different owners and mailed to three different addresses. We laugh about it but how silly.

I know Shelley; she worked for me at the IVY Club and I worked for her a short bit at RK. She helped John Valentine start Panache. Where she was before that, I do not know. When RK opened, she was there 24/7 and had a really dedicated crew which made a HUGE impact. Heck one of the original employees is still there! I think she made connections with a lot of the right people. I also know the landlords who are good people.

Today, she doesn't work the hours she used to. I understand that. You give up a lot of weekends, holidays, family events, etc. all for the sake of this business. When everyone else is out on the weekend, you are in part responsible for their "good times". Her kids are grown and I'm sure now it is family & relax time and let someone take care of her now that she can go out on the weekends.

@ChefKevin :

This truly makes a difference. Next one in line has to stand out just as she did.

I can tell a restaurant owner is good when you see the same hostess and bartender there for years and years. That to me, is a sign that she treats people right.
