@tntrecycling

A couple of times we have walked from Main and University down Main St. to meet friends at Rhythm Kitchen who were coming from East Peoria. Wev made a stop at Twin Towers to get some friends and we kept walking. Once we got past Monroe and Main we did not see a moving car or other pedestrians. The only thing we saw moving was a couple of city buses. That was all in daylight. No way did we walk back at night.

@lanestar7 So they were looking for a restaurant. Like I have said advertisement. I have not said anything bad about her restaurant bar.

My whole point to start with.

We have stayed at the Marriott a couple of times. People are always asking about places to eat other than the hotel. Rhythm Kitchen is one of the places mentioned. You should see the look on customers face when they hear where it is. Many of them have never been to Peoria before and many of them dont even have a car at the hotel.

@billybob I don't understand that's all I said was not a lot of traffic and needed advertisement.

I hope when she is open she has a crowd if not she wouldn't be able to pay her rent.

Ones gets tired of keeping up. Its hard today making your business stand out.

I admit, deciphering your posts is not my strongest ability but I am 99% sure your comments indicate she was selling because she wasn't able to make her business stand out. I'm sure she is very proud of her standing and the fact that she built a successful business before anything was around her at all that has lasted decades.

I'm sorry your little shop didn't make it downtown but this is a successful, thriving business who KNEW how to keep up and stand out.

@lanestar7 :
What is her reason for selling? Is she really just tired of the grind or is there another issue? I suspect that there might be a downturn in business considering what CAT is going though. If so that will be challenge going forward.

Another indicator is that convenience store that was at the corner of Main and Madison. I am not sure how long it was there before it moved into the Twin Towers and ultimately closed. But the word is there was no business especially after hours and on weekends.

@billybob Shelley Lenzini, owner of Rhythm Kitchen Music Cafe, has decided to sell her restaurant after almost 18 years at 305 SW Water St. and 35 years in the restaurant business.

“I love the place and it’s bittersweet,” Lenzini said. “I want to spend some time with my kids and with my family.”

A constant on the riverfront during the area’s growing pains over the last two decades, Lenzini lamented that she was leaving the restaurant right as the riverfront seems poised for more growth and activity.

We can check with Chef but I feel like 35 years in the restaurant business might be enough for anyone. Do you know her at all? She is a grandmother and her husband is retired.

Why is everyone so shocked that people retire/?? Should we speculate why Kevin Schoeplein, CEO of OSF is REALLY retiring?!?! Not because he is in his 70's, I'm sure it must be because OSF is totally failing. C'mon people.

@lanestar7 Your just assuming again. Jim Garrott owned the building he passed away the building was sold..

Same would happen to Rhythm Kitchen if the building was sold. New landlord don't always mean you get to stay.

We did meet her a couple of times. She is very, very nice. I just wonder if the situation at CAT might have advanced her desire to retire.

But 35 years is a long time.

As we speak, there is a restaurant in Fredericksburg that has been around since 1940. Miss Vickie has owned the restaurant for about 35 years. The building owner away passed away and his nephews got the building. They live in CA and never saw the building until the uncle passed. There is a year to go on the lease which the nephews will honor. However, the restaurant owner does not like the nephews at all. The nephews are fighting among themselves big time and so the restaurant owner is looking at other places.
