back to shunning:What happened to love the sinner, not the sin? Seems to me, shunning someone who walks away from a religion should not be shunned from your life. I would think you'd try to bring him/her back into the fold. What about the Parable of the Lost Son?

I will shun this for the simple reason.Asking and telling are two different things question and calling names are two different things.

for the record, I wouldn't shun. I remember calling my sister and asking her advise on a situation. A young woman I knew (back when I was young). She wanted to come to church with me. She was a known liar and I didn't want to tarnish my own reputation by being associated with a known liar.She told me absolutely I should bring her. SHE is exactly the right person to bring with me. If I shunned her, she would not have that opportunity to *maybe* "see the light".

We use church discipline outlined in the Bible. We do it in love so that the brother or sister comes back, but not to do this practice is not being biblical sound. Jesus spelled it out:Matthew 18:15-1815 �If your brother or sister[a] sins,[b] go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that �every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.�[c] 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
