.25% increase, right?
That means a restaurant meal in the CoP is taxed at 11% now?

I go to the Menard's in Washington. When I do, I can stop at Dollar Tree, Aldi, Cato Fashions, Walmart then go on in to town and go to Big R & Kroger. I usually leave from Kroger and stop at the Goodwill store.

I found this on the District 150 website. www.peoriapublicscho ols.org/salestax
I hope it helps.

Retail sales that are NOT taxed include:
Unprepared Food (groceries)
Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications
Cars, Trucks, ATV’s, Boats, & RVs, Mobile Homes
Farm Equipment, Parts, and Farm Inputs
Services are also not taxed
If it is not currently taxed, it will not be taxed

Just trying to keep pennies alive here in Peoria. Most of the places I go in Peoria you can pick pennies up in the parking lot.

@jannn1959
Nitpicking here, but this isn't entirely true. Sugary drinks and "candy" are taxed. "Candy" is defined as items that contain sugar, but not flour. So, chocolate chips are taxed at the full rate, but packaged chocolate chip COOKIES are not. Emoticon

Well maybe I needed to consider the source. The district wanted the tax to pass, so maybe they left off items or do not have a complete listing. I guess I wasn't a good researcher, I just went with the first source I found.

Yikes!
So, total sales tax on a taxable item in the City of Peoria will now be 9%? 11% on restaurant meals (movie tickets and hotel stays, too)?

@JustRight Correct. The restaurant tax will be higher in Peoria than in Chicago or any major city. This will cause Peoria to have on of the highest eat-out taxes in US. Schools have just began there push for "more revenue" (higher taxes.)
