Did Reagan run the country when he was in office or his fruitcake bimbo wife Nancy?

@mypeez :
She had her say on some things, especially staff personnel issues, but there is no major evidence that she had major influence on major policy issues.

What is interesting is that, in some ways, Margaret Thatcher as a very major influence on some foreign policy issues. She was one of the first world leaders to meet Gorbachev. She reported back to Reagan that she thought she could trust him and that he really did want change. Reagan listened to her quite intently.

Cant help but wonder how things would have played out with the current cast of republican characters in the current political atmosphere.

There are also rumors that Nancy Reagan pushed for a female to be appointed to the Supreme Court when Reagan appointed Sandra Day OConner, There is no evidence at all anywhere that the idea ever originated with Nancy. I have been to talks and appearances where Justice OConner spoke, I have read her book and another one about her, No where does it suggest that it was all Nancys idea. Quite the contrary. This is not meant as a defense of Reagan but to report facts as they seem to be.

@AV8R

She was at a book signing when her book her book "The Downing Street Years" first came out. One of the very, very few times we waited in line for such a thing. But by the time we got to the door of the bookstore her class was extending all the way from the back of the store to the entrance.

As a side not, there are some really, really interesting parts of that book as it mentions US foreign policy and her friendship with Reagan and their mutual trust and respect.
