Yes it's Obama's fault.

No, not his fault.
But it would have been nice if he had issued a statement expressing condolences and support.

How about condolences from the presidential candidates? Obviously a way to score points. No?

Obama won't get involved in a local police matter unless there is a need for the attorney general to get involved.

I would find it very distasteful to try and act like they even cared. It would be all for show unless perhaps Trump offered up some cash for reward for capture.

@joepyeweed:
The events in Ferguson, MO were a "local police matter". That didn't stop the president from commenting on it.
The murder of a police officer, an hour's drive from Obama's hometown, is a FEDERAL crime. The murderer is still loose, and likely a threat to others.
Obama's silence on this matter is disgraceful.

When my wife's brother in law (an officer) was gunned down nearly 20 years ago in western Missouri there was no Presidential comment, nor was it needed. The city rallied around us as did Police from all over the nation. We had a very substantial police escort (surprising and unasked for) from the funeral home to the grave site and the local schools were let out to honor the procession that traveled through town. It was humbling to say the least.

Obama's lack of comment (or "silence") is not disgraceful, it's simply not needed.

Why the double standard?
Why did he issue statements on Trayvon Martin ( "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon"), the Sandy Hook killings, and the events in Ferguson?

Obama didn't "issue a statement" on Trayvon Martin. He was at a press event on another topic, and a reporter asked him about the Martin case. And he answered the question.

Have their been any presidential press events recently where a member of the press has asked him about the murder of the day.

Sandy Hook was a national tragedy that deserved a statement.

The feds got involved in Ferguson with fair cause if you read the findings....

I want to play devils advocate for a minute. Why is it when a cop is shot - it is all hands on deck, shut down anything and everything to find the perps, 24/7. When a regular person is shot, it is a process and long and drawn out.

@jimthompson :

Let me play Devil's advocate now. If you read about someone randomly being killed, is your reaction the same as if it was a family member?

Geez...how sad is this? Emoticon

"A 30-year-old woman is charged with filing a false police report after she lied about spotting the suspects in the Fox Lake murder of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, authorities said.

Kristin Kiefer's claim prompted a massive five-hour search in Volo and Lakemoor overnight.

A woman's claim about spotting the men wanted in Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's murder in Fox Lake prompted a massive five-hour search in nearby Volo.

The Lake County sheriff's office said Kiefer told officers she pulled over at Rt. 12 and Rt. 120 in Volo for car trouble on Wednesday night. She alleged that two men, one white and one black, who were in a cornfield approached her and tried to steal her car. She said they ran away.

Nearly 100 state and local law enforcement authorities searched the area along with 11 canine and three air units from around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday until around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Nothing was found.

Authorities said Kiefer later admitted to fabricating the entire story because she wanted attention from the family that she nannies for.

Kiefer, of Vernon Hills, was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct for falsifying a police report. One of those charges is a felony.

A judge set Kiefer's bond at $100,000 on Thursday. She is due in court on Sept. 10.

The overnight search rattled a community that had already been on edge this week.

"I think it's horrible, I don't understand why somebody would do such a thing?" said Shon Ross, a Lakemoor resident.

"A lot of people lost sleep," said Eddie Alejandro, a Volo resident.

The response, Lake County Sheriff's Detective Chris Covelli said, speaks to the current presence of law enforcement in the area.

"Obviously things will never be quite normal, with the loss of the lieutenant. But we are working very hard to restore things to as normal as possible," Lake County Sheriff's Detective Chris Covelli said.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation of Gliniewicz's murder.

A massive manhunt for two white males and one black male went on for more than 20 hours earlier this week, after the lieutenant was fatally shot while responding to a call about three suspicious people in Fox Lake on Tuesday.

Area schools went on lockdown after the shooting. Classes were canceled on Wednesday as the manhunt continued. Students at Grant Community High School and other local schools returned to class on Thursday.

Gliniewicz was the first Fox Lake police officer to be killed in the line of duty."
