I have something similar... seems like yellowjackets, not wasps. Girl got stung a few times and ended up in the ER. I've had the notion to pour gas in to their hole and light it on fire. 2 cans of Raid didn't take care of them. I also took a spade and wrecked their entrance tunnel but the little jerks drilled another one.

We had the same thing last year. I got stung a couple times. The dog got stung. The handyman got swarmed and we had to take him to the Er. After a few failed attempts with hornet spray, hubs called a buddy that does pest control. If you know where they are coming from, usually a ground nest, drill a bunch of holes with in the ground, with a really long bit, in the nest area and around the perimeter. ..add borax, water it in...worked for us last fall.
