Lots of raised eyebrows and jaw s dropping that his bond is only set at $500,000. People were expecting a higher amount.

@billybob : This seems to be the case of a lot of cases of late.

Not that we don't have enough to debate, but....
Last night five families had their houses set ablaze and an Arby's was burnt down in Minneapolis. 30+ people without jobs and 5 dislocated families. Really?
If the police shot and killed someone close to you with no cause, would you go burn down a McDonalds, set some random family's house on fire then break into Emos and steal an ice cream machine in protest?
Seriously, would any of you PDCers do this?
When does this stop becoming a protest and turns into terrorism? If people have to start worrying about their houses burning down in a protest....I feel that is a form of terrorism.

I think there would be peaceful protests.

Oh wait, that didn't work.

Those that did nothing during the peaceful protests are just as much at fault, IMO. How often do POC need to be killed, then try to be reasonable, only to be **** on some more, before they resort to non-peacefiul ways?

It's a little too late to be shocked, if you had your fingers in your ears for years when people tried to talk.

Really? Because I was listening and was outraged at the video I saw of the man dying with a cop's knee on his neck...and then the looting started. That's where they lost me. Still not condoning or any less outraged at what happened to Mr. Floyd, but am almost as outraged at the looting and rioting. One does not make the other acceptable no matter how badly you want to virtue signal everyone and display your "woke" attitude.

@ChefKevin : For one we have a system that takes care of criminals. Does it always work no it don't but we still have this in place.
These people protesting are not just out for this mans justice to me they`re just beating a drum so to speak. This does not make things better it makes things worse. Cost of police cost of no military also the cost of disrupting lives because they feel like its their right.
For one I would not protest in any manner.

About 30 minutes ago, CNN and MSNBC were carrying live a Presser with the MN Governor and Lt. Governor. (Fox was doing news on COVID, go figure) A graphic said that the Governor has called out the National Guard to restore peace from the violent protesters. The Lt. Governor claims that White Supremacists and anarchists were the ones burning the buildings....not the protesters.

The Conservatives would probably call that fake news. Although I wouldn't, I guess I'd have to see some evidence as well. Basically any surveillance camera footage not damaged or destroyed near the burning buildings.

I don't agree with the tactics used by protesters, but I understand it. boots on the neck and bullets to the chest for far too long, and people wonder why they go nuts. lock up the ones breaking the law, but also look at the source of the anger, fix that. if you don't, this madness will happen again and again. Inaction to fix the root cause will have the same results tomorrow.

@AverageSue : It has been happening, again and again. Remember the Rodney King beating in LA in 1992? Folks rioted over that. That may have been the start of modern day way to respond to acts like this. Community leaders from all sectors have pleaded for folks that rioting and looting is not the answer. And then there are conferences, meetings, discussions on how to improve police/community relations. But then, it happens again, usually in another city.

@DennisinMH : it continues to happen because the root cause hasn't been addressed. Instead of attacking the root case, peaceful protesters like CK get crucified. That alone shows that the problem hasn't been fixed.

@DennisinMH :
You would be amazed how many times, after the Rodney King case, people wrote or commented that it was really a CA problem and once they got that under control things would take care of themselves. Seriously.
Though it was a totally different situation
I would say that the OKC bombing started to make people realize really bad things can happen anywhere.
One element of possible change might be the way the prosecutors seems to be handling
this as there was a bit of a delay in arresting Chauvin. Hopefully the prosecutors really did their detailed work this time.
In Baltimore after the Freddy Gray incident, the prosecutor rushed, rushed to press charges and arrest officers. Problem was the charges were either dropped or they were acquitted on the charges the states attorney bought. There was a trial by judge and the judge could see the holes in the prosecutions case. Not guilty. Yet nearly everyone could see that something obviously happened, but exactly what? Before that there was the complicated murder case of Robert Wone involving 3 possible suspects but no one has been tried for murder. All 3 were tried on other charges and acquitted. No charges at all were brought for two years. Prosecution could not piece things together. Defendant asked for a trial by judge and was found not guilty. So if things are going to change, the prosecutors have to do their work too.
In this case, I understand, there is a lawyer in the prosecutors office who has gotten a conviction on an officer and will be trying this case. So maybe we can be hopeful this time. Otherwise, sorry there is no time for on the job training in cases like this.

Fired on appearances? The coroner reported no trauma. Stating an underlying heart condition and intoxication as the cause of death.

@starbound64 : Nope, no bias at the corner's office. None what so ever!
Independent autopsy shows George Floyd died from 'asphyxiation from sustained pressure'
www.cnn.com/2020/06/ 01/us/george-floyd-i ndependent-autopsy/i ndex.html
An independent autopsy into the death of George Floyd found that the unarmed black man died from "asphyxiation from sustained pressure," according to attorney Ben Crump.

Floyd was essentially "dead on the scene" in Minneapolis on May 25, Crump said. "The ambulance was his hearse," the family's attorney told reporters Monday.

The independent autopsy's findings come after the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found "no physical findings" to "support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation," according to the criminal complaint released by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office in the arrest of former Officer Derek Chauvin.

Chauvin had his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total and two minutes and 53 seconds after Floyd was unresponsive, the complaint says.

Preliminary autopsy results cited in the complaint said combined effects of being restrained, any potential intoxicants in Floyd's system and his underlying health issues, including heart disease, probably contributed to his death. Toxicology results can take weeks.

"George died because he needed a breath. He needed a breath of air," Crump said.

Independent autopsy paid for by his family? Conservatives would say that outcome is biased.

Or do you think the Coroner was trying to cover Chauvin's A**?

Strike that: "Doubters would say that outcome was biased".

@DennisinMH : I don't think this is a "liberal - conservative" thing. I think you just use those words as a knee jerk reaction now.
