@billybob Billy, your reasoning makes sense. However wouldn't the media travel to Peoria just as quick as to Springfield? It seems like Schock kept a pretty high-profile so I would think national media would be in either city.

@Byron
The Springfield based media has already set up shop there. Newspapers and some TV stations have reporters assigned to Springfield. They would have to be uprooted to Peoria or commute every day. Neither one of those options is really attractive.

It is possible the courtrooms in Springfield are larger. If so that wold accomodate more media which might be a problem for Schock.

the media had no problem attending the case of U.S. v Ali al-Marri when it was in Peoria back in '09.

Any number of reasons including that all the work has pretty much been done in Springfield including the grand jury.

@billybob :

which has what to do with a jury trial? The judge is not involved in grand jury proceedings, and the prosecutor can get in a car and be in Peoria in 90 minutes. None of the grand jurors would sit on the petit jury. So basically, nobody other than the prosecutor really ties any of this to Springfield at this point. It's my understanding none of the defense team is from Springfield either.

Has a plea offer been tendered? Doubtful, since he hasn't even been arraigned yet.

The question is whether the white hot hate of the anti Schock people will allow them to move on without their full pound of flesh

The timing of all of this is interesting to me. The indictment came just after the election. Schock basically says this is unfair and cites Hillary getting away with the emails.

Who benefitted from Schock's fall? Hillary? No someone else more local than that did.

If the indictment came before the election who would be more likely to talk about it, Trump or Junius Rodriguez?

Having the trial in Peoria may get people talking at and around the Peoria Federal Courthouse.
