Have you ever had a mammogram vonster?
If so, was it prescribed a doctor, where did you have it and how did you pay for it?

Did you have to go back for a follow up, a close up on one particular area, or an ultrasound because the x-ray showed something suspicious? If so, who did you talk to about doing that? Who made the ultrasound referral? Who reviewed the results with you?

If you have not had worry about answering the above questions, then you have no idea what an ob/gyn does or what PP does.... PP maybe does not actually take the xray, (just like any other doctor) but their doctors and nurses are certainly involved in the process, prescribing it, reviewing the results and follow-up recommendations, just like any other doctor and an xray etc. etc.

And yes lots of people were saying mammograms, mostly conservative talk radio show hosts repeating misinformation over and over again until people thought it was true..... a common theme of misinformation propaganda...

Yes, birth control & gynecological care. I was very grateful for a low-cost option. Abortions never even entered my mind. I'm so tired of hearing people talk about PP as if it's an evil place; it was very helpful and good for me.

Presidential debate 2012 - Barack Obama "women rely on PP for mammograms"

@VonsterPeo :

www.factcheck.org/20 12/10/planned-parent hood-and-mammograms/

Nucatola said that “for many women,” Planned Parenthood is their only health care provider and “thus the only way they will get a referral for a mammogram.”

you need a referral, in most cases, to get a mammo. So, while PP doesn't do the mammos themselves, they are able to acquire the necessary referral.

I hope that clears that up.

Barack Obama, like most men, would not able to accurately represent what happens at an OB/GYN office.

Obama also said he visited 57 states... so consider the source. ;-)

The myth that Planned Parenthood actually offers mammogram X-rays to patients has been long debunked, and needs to stop being repeated. Planned Parenthood does not administer mammograms, but it keeps being perpetuated by the group’s supporters, including celebrities whose claims have a wide reach.

When Democratic lawmakers or other supporters assert that Planned Parenthood “provides” mammograms, this is highly misleading language because it could be interpreted to mean that the group directly administers the X-rays. The group does not “provide” mammograms. Rather, the situation is similar to other clinics where patients are referred to a licensed facility that can provide biopsies, X-rays or other specialized services. It is slightly more accurate to say that women have “access” to mammograms via Planned Parenthood, though it’s still slippery language.

We uphold the rating we gave to the president in 2012, and award Three Pinocchios to Planned Parenthood supporters’ continued use of misleading language to suggest that it directly administers mammograms. In fact, supporters should drop this talking point, given that less than 3 percent of Planned Parenthood breast exams result in a referral for a mammogram and other specialized services.

@VonsterPeo :

Men can get mammograms. Men can get breast cancer. Sometimes they need them.

PP clinics can do men's sexual health care. The name is Planned Parenthood... last I knew men can experience Parenthood too.

Yes, I don't know how the PP mammogram misinformation got started and I wish people would stop repeating it.

But don't dismiss the importance of the physical breast exam, it is part of a standard OB/GYN exam for what constitutes proper cancer screening in order to get a prescription for birth control.

The protocol for the exam includes the physical breast exam among other things (including the pap smear, the visual observation of the uterus, palpating the ovaries, etc. etc.. Thank goodness only 3% of those exams result in a referral for a mammogram.

But you know if I think about it, I had my foot x-rayed recently. I am pretty sure I told people that I went to the doctor and got my foot x-rayed. But what actually happened was: I went to the doctor complaining about a specific pain in my foot, The doctor ordered an x-ray. I went to the diagnostic center for the x-ray. The x-ray results were sent to my doctor, and my doctor referred me to a podiatrist and my x-ray results were sent to the podiatrist. I had an appointment to review the x-ray, with the podiatrist. The podiatrist made some recommendations to treat my foot pain. My doctor followed up with those recommendations on my next appointment. So I guess I could see how someone could say the same thing about PP. I went to PP and got a mammogram.

I really don't see that PP offering or not offering mammos changes the point I made.

Talk about Good Grief?
Like trying to shutdown the entire US government over Medicaid funding for PP patients?
