I think Hillary is planning to take it to another level..get those payments down..make it more affordable..and lower those deductibles

@craftywoman :

Where is she going to take it? Single payer? Never going to pass. More subsidies? Where's the money going to come from? The biggest problem with the ACA is that everyone underestimested the costs of no pre-existing conditions ban, keeping dependents on longer, etc.

That in addition to overestimating the number of people joining the exchanges leads to not enough premiums being paid to subsidise. Hence premiums skyrocketing. A perfect storm.

@supermom I think for every story like yours, there is one for people like me who have seen their premiums go up yearly at an alarming rate and saw their deductible double or triple. I am fortunate, like your family, that a business helps pick up part of that cost, but some people do not have that.

Before this, I basically had a policy for catastrophic health care. I'm rarely sick or nothing something like a First Care can't deal with. I kept the majority of my deductible (which was less than it is now) in a savings account. I really wish I could have this policy back (which I believe was one of Obama's claims that you could keep your old policy).

When signing up for an ACA plan, they all looked about the same. I don't think there would be as much animosity toward the ACA if there were plans that would suit your family's needs as well as mine and options in between.

The first step would be to eliminate the provisions that PREVENT the government (Medicaid/are) from negotiationing drug pricing. That would be MAJOR reform that would, quite literally, trickle down. Current drugs are prices at what insurance will pay. Medicare/Medicaid being the largest insurance agency in the country can't negotiate so they pay whatever pharma says. Which, in turn, is what our private payers will pay.

MADISON, Wis. — Paul Ryan warned voters Friday evening of a “nightmare scenario” in which Democrats seize control of Congress — the first time he’s publicly vocalized his fear that Hillary Clinton could sweep away his entire GOP majority.

It’s a striking change in tone for Ryan, who now finds himself in a dogfight to keep his historically large GOP majority. Republicans were expected to lose a handful of seats. But with Donald Trump sinking in the polls amid allegations of sexual harassment and a barrage of headlines blaring his crude comments about women, Republicans worry their nominee will bring down the House majority with him.

You mean a politician is using fear tactics to try and get votes? Shocking.

the same slimeball politician that just recently vocalized his disgust at the GOP candidate is now concerned with what the Democratic candidate may usher in? At this point, I really don't care who wins. There is a part of me that hopes the entire g-d damn system collapses. Ya, it would suck, but deep down a lot of people would be smiling under their grief.

Franklin was right, when after the Constitutional Convention he was asked "well Doctor, what type of government do we have, a Republic or a Monarchy?" Franklin replied "A Republic, if you can keep it."

That is the $64,000 question, isn't it? If we are to keep it, we need to wipe the board of entrenched politicians and start again.

@supermom I feel for you. I really do but this doesn't change my mind about voting this year. The healthcare system in this country is totally messed up and I don't believe either Trump or Clinton can--or will--change it for the better. If Trump gets elected, I can see him getting rid of it with nothing to replace it. If Clinton gets elected, I doubt a Republican majority in Congress will let her do anything.

There is no way to fix the healthcare system until our government puts caps on how much Big Pharma can charge per medicine and how much profit they can make per year. And that's not going to happen anytime soon because Big Pharma has powerful lobbyists who won't ever let that happen. Big Pharma is greedy. They don't care about you or me. They care about the bottom line.

Healthcare reform will continue. Medicare for all... Aka, universal (single-player) is the only way to break the choke hold Big Pharma, PBMs and Insurance have on the working class.

Let's hope not. Canada is a disaster. It's okay if you get a cold, but for anything major the ones who can afford it come to America.

@supermom

Single payer is coming but in small bits and pieces. Even republicans "whisper" in very, very hush tones that it is coming in small bits and pieces. Sometimes the pieces will be be larger and faster and sometimes they will be smaller and slower but the single payer system is coming.

The reality is that a lot of people are covered now that were not covered before for various reasons including pre existing conditions. To repeal Obamacare would leave too many voters behind and that wont happen. End of story.

The other day Paul Ryan talked about repairing Obamacare and that is different than in past times when they talked about repealing Obamacare.
