I remember the price spike when Bush was in office, with prices hitting $5 back then. Then I recall how the Bush managed to bring it back down.
I saw that starting July 1st, gas prices in Illinois will go up by 50 cents. It feels like these changes can just be decided and happen without any input from the people.

@tntrecycling :
No, I think gas tax in Illinois goes up to about 49.6 cents. If gas goes up .50 on July 1, it will be because of new warfare somewhere in the Middle East.
My opinion and mine alone and not my employer's.

I support higher fuel taxes. Just lower the property tax and put special sale days on sales tax to make up the difference. You can choose to not drive somewhere most of the time, but you can't choose to skip paying your property tax.
@PeoriaIllinoisan @DennisinPeoria : You are up more upset by a $0.004 increase in the gas tax and not the dollars the price has gone up since Trump was inaugurated? That increase was a standard inflation adjustment that was part of a bill passed a few years back. It's not new. It is not a surprise. It is rage bait and you fell for it.
@Mahkno : I'm aware, and it's 49cents, not $0.0004. The fact that Dennis isn't concerned is what bothered me, but I wasn't clear on that. The Illinois tax and the Trump increases are separate and should be treated as so.

When you can take advantage of other countries with oil prices, it's no surprise gas gets pricey. The reason is they can charge people around the world more than what we pay. Have you stopped buying.
I'm hearing talk of another price surge coming in the next few months due to stateside reserves being depleted.
