It is that time of year again, or at least I think it is. Every fall I start getting bratwurst crazy. Who do you think makes the best brats?

I actually make my own when I'm in the mood. Broke down a small pork butt today and added some Sam Adams Octoberfest, brown & yellow mustard, marjoram, onion & garlic powder, black pepper, a hint of nutmeg, sage and rosemary. Hooked up the grinder with the sausage making attachment and made 18 nice sized (5 1/2 - 6 ounce) brats.

HY-VEE has great bratwurst. No need to act fancy schmancy with it. Grill it and eat it. MMMMMMMMM goooood !!!

The brats sound great, but might be a little spicy for my taste. Been trying to get accustomed to spicier food but it is a slow process.

I hated spicy foods all my life - until I was prenant with my boys. Then I couldn't get enough! Large plate of nachos and I'd eat all the jalapenos. Thai food, I'd get the spiciest things on the menu.

Maybe you should try that. lol

Can't handle the real spicy foods and am long past the age of getting pregnant so I guess I will continue to gradually increase the spice!

Miesfelds meat market, Sheboygan Wi..

I bought some brats at Costco that were from Chicago that weren't bad. Krogers generics are edible, better than Johnsonville.

My favorite commercial brat is Klements, but those are hard to find around here.

One should simmer them in beer and onions before they are grilled. And they should be served on a hard roll. Most of the brats in the store are too long and you can not get a proper hard roll around here either.

DAG NABBIT! Kevin has me thinking about making a brat and roll run up to Sheboygan. If i time it right, I can pick up some coho too.

Schnucks are some of the best around here. Last weekend I found some brats at Alwan that are made with various kinds of Boulevard beer. Got some Unfiltered Wheat, they were....not as good as I was expecting.

I just went to Alwan's and got a brat for lunch. It was ok, but wasn't good enough to curb my desire to go to Sheboygan.

I make a thing called Brat sauce. I saute chopped onions until golden, add beer, reduce it a bit, and the brats, simmer a bit, remove brats, reduce to sauce-like and stir in a little fresh beer and some stone ground mustard.

Pitsch's was good, but no better than Alwans, Pottstown, Rabers, or Hy-Vee.
