right before Thanksgiving Sam's had 7.5 dozen for $10.72 and right next to it was 2-18 packs for $10.27. Wish I had bought several of the 7.5 dozens. Ugh

@kraziebill : wife and I don't get through a dozen Kroger eggs sometimes before they're no good 3 weeks after expiration date. Let alone 7.5 dozen eggs.

@DennisinPeoria : Us neither, but with these prices, I wish I had frozen more.

Still trying to convince the accounting dept (aka wife) the purchase of a freeze dryer. lol

A little light humor about the cost of eggs. Got a chuckle.

Just got back from the store. It looked like all the hens were on strike. Only a few half dozen cartons. A woman said she was at Costco and saw none.

@AverageSue : Makes my $6.99 sound like a bargain!

@PeoriaIllinoisan : I went with the plant based. I figured if the price for half dozen was going to be that high, might as well try the alternative now. Eggs were always so cheap it didn't make sense for me to buy the fake stuff. Fake eggs were pricey, but it was a 1-time thing, or at least limited time only. (depending on egg prices and availability!)

Yesterday at Aldi's $4.79 a dozen. There goes cheap breakfast at restaurants.

We just got a (24) package of eggs at Costco yesterday for $6.99. Great buy. I have changed my diet, and now I am eating more eggs.
BTW - they had plenty of eggs. 🥚

I've had to switch to egg whites at restaurants lately. Not sure why, because of having body issues I won't go into detail here. No matter if I have scrambled or over hard. At the same time, I'm sure restaurants will be raising their prices soon.

Now, when my wife makes scrambled eggs with smoked sausage for dinner, I'm good.

Can eggs actually be frozen? I saw someone mention it here.

In the "I don't get it department", I was at Sav-a-lot in the Heights today and they had free range/organic brown eggs for $3.49 a dozen while the regular, run of the mill white version was $4.99. Usually, the supposedly better for you eggs are more expensive.

Note about plant based eggs:
(I call the feggs... Fake eggs!)

They are an "ok" substitute. Diff texture, diff taste. Edible, but meh .

Update from Haddad's West Peoria -

1 doz Brown Eggs: $6.99
1 doz Free Range Brown Eggs: $6.99
1 doz Large Eggs: $6.99
1 doz Extra Large Eggs: $6.49
1 doz Medium Eggs: $5.49

We're baking cookies, so not needing a full dozen we took their (relative) steal of a deal of $2 for a half dozen extra large eggs.

As with everything, it all depends on where you shop. Haddads is a "convenient" place to shop, not a "thrifty" place to shop.

@CCubs : Absolutely, and I make no apologies for shopping at the a neighborhood grocery, even if it means paying a little more for some items, although in this case I was pretty happy to get a half dozen for two bucks (and Champs fried chicken for dinner Emoticon )
