It is sad that this has become the new norm in local TV news. People put in a couple years and then move on to bigger and better things. It is especially disappointing when the ones that can consistently read a teleprompter, are actually informed about local issues, and can engage in fruitful discussions move on. I think Paul Cicchini was a good one that was recently lost. The two current News 25 anchors seem solid. Hopefully they will be around for awhile.

There was a field reporter on WMBD I haven't seen lately. Last name was PALDO. I really enjoyed her stories. Is she still doing tv?

@HipKat : The viewing area of the local networks includes more than just Peoria. It reaches well over 500,000 people and at least 10 counties from what I can tell.

@Tazewell :

The Peoria tv market is not large. It isn't even in the top 100. It is ranked about 118 with about 235,000 viewers. Historically only Rockford has been ranked lower by about 20 places.A total of about 210 tv markets are ranked.

Champaign,Quad Cities and other places rank well above Peoria in number of potential viewers. It might reach 10 counties but the counties are not densely populated.

@billybob : Whether you consider it to be large or not is subjective, but that is not what I said. I said that the viewing area includes more than just Peoria. The combined population of McLean, Peoria, and Tazewell counties alone is 500,000. I realize that probably not all of McLean county is in the viewing area, but that is more than made up for by LaSalle, Bureau, Fulton, Woodford, Logan, and Mason counties.

I know you said the area was more than just Peoria and even acknowledged it by saying none of the counties are densely populated.

@billybob : My only point was that this area is not as backwater as some would make it out to be. Agree or no?

Depends on what you are judging it by to make that statement.

Depends on what you are judging it by to make that statement.There are some places that are ranked lower in tv market size than Peoria that are anything but backwater and from which civic leaders and Peoria City Hall could learn some lessons. Charlottesville ranked around 180 of so is one such h example. Traverse City ranked just below Peoria is another place that is not backwater. Hattiesburg ranked below Peoria is far worse than Peoria in countless ways and has been since forever.

@Tazewell : It may not be the most backwater place in the country, but is definitely backwater. You ever lived anywhere else?
