surveys like this really tick me off... if the goal of these groups (womens rights, black rights, minority rights, handicap rights, etc) is to strive for equal treatment, then what is the point in drawing attention to exactly what sets us apart?
at no point in my life as a white male have i ever felt privileged; in fact, quite the opposite.
- if i get my wife/girlfriend pregnant, i have no say in the matter of abortion but am expected to support the child regardless
- i am considered a threat to children just for walking through a playground
- there are certain words forbidden from my vocabulary regardless if used in an entirely non-offensive way (ie, read from a book or lyrics to a song)
- i've never had any leg up in the work force. i've been working paycheck to paycheck my whole life with no savings to show for it; been on foodstamps; shamefully accepted handouts knowing i could never repay it
- there is no outlet for me to express my frustration, i just get walked on and told to suck it up because that's what men do
the list goes on... with all these different groups shouting for more diversity in order to help themselves, i can't help but consider myself a minority. but i'm not allowed to shout for my rights, why? because my ancestors had more than enough?
i don't care what group you represent if it isn't all inclusive, because you're just representing hate and doing far more damage than you are good.
