This is my ***** about mail in votes. If election day is November 3, all votes are in by November 3. Anything after that is trash. You've had plenty of time to get it done. You pay your credit card late? Penalty. Pay your property taxes late? Penalty Don't get to Kroger before they close? No soup for you. Don't catch that last Essex ferry across Lake Champlain, you're stuck in NY overnight.
The only thing that makes me not be 100% militant about this is our oversea military personnel. But with our military budget, one would think there is enough money to figure out how to get that done.

The postmark has been repeatedly held up in courts as a valid marker for compliance with deadlines. That is why they are counted after election day.
