The Salvation Army is $9 million closer to what will eventually be a $30 million renovation of its Downtown Peoria campus, thanks to two lead gifts from local philanthropists.
Don Fites, former CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., pledged $4 million through his family's charitable trust. Royal Coulter and his wife, Kathy, former owners of Peoria Disposal Company, pledged $5 million toward the project on the 400 block of Jefferson Street.
