Here's how previous Late Night comedians poked fun at other Presidents. Apparently they weren't like our current WH resident who gets so easily offended, can't take a joke or satire. And they never threatened to sue the networks, local affiliate groups never pulled their shows, and never had the FCC Chairman threaten to pull licenses or threaten any business deals the networks needed FCC approval on:
"Yes, late light comedy and American satire in general has never shied away from poking fun at presidents.
-- "There is a power struggle going on between President Reagan's advisers. Moe and Curly are out. Larry is still in." (Carson) [1]
"The last time George Bush gave a speech, someone came up and drew a chalk outline around his body." (Carson) [2]
"Egyptian President Sadat had a belly dancer entertain President Nixon at a state dinner. Mr. Nixon was really impressed. He hadn't seen contortions like that since Rose Mary Woods." (Carson)
"Did you know Richard Nixon is the only president whose formal portrait was painted by a police sketch artist?" (Carson)
"Ronald Reagan just signed the new tax law. But I think he was in Hollywood too long. He signed it, 'Best wishes, Ronald Reagan.'" (Carson)
"You get the feeling that Dan Quayle's golf bag doesn't have a full set of irons?" (Carson)
"Nancy Reagan fell down and broke her hair." (Carson)
"May you have the income of a Republican and the sex life of a Democrat!" (Carson)
"President Bush has said that he does not need approval from the UN to wage war, and I'm thinking, well, hell, he didn't need the approval of the American voters to become president, either." (Letterman)
"President Bush has been silent on Schwarzenegger. Of course, he can't pronounce Schwarzenegger." (Letterman)
