I'm more of the opinion that Trump's name should NOT be removed from any ballot. Let the voters decide by NOT voting for him. The insurrection clause of the Constitution is a gray area. The only reason SCOTUS would rule against Trump is, why did he, an incumbent who lost the election, held a needless rally the morning of the certification? There are arguments on both sides whether he caused the insurrection. I think he fired up the crowd, but not enough for them to attack the Capitol. It was during the March to the Capitol when everyone got notified that Pence was NOT going against the Constitutional duty of certifying the Electoral College votes. And then they got mad. Rest is a history that will never be forgotten. Let's see Trump get outvoted at the ballot box, and laugh while his unpaid lawyers, and his supporters do a deja Vu of trying to claim vote fraud against his GOP opponents.

@DennisinPeoria : SO,..... you have decided to vote AGAINST Trump?

I don't think it should be left up to the voters. Just like I don't think it should be up to the voters that Cenk Uygur should be left to voters to decide.

Trump DEFINITELY does not deserve to be on any AMERICAN POLITICAL ballot EVER AGAIN!

@CCubs :
agreed.

but my point is... it's in the constitution. Just like voters shouldn't vote on peoples' rights, they shouldn't vote have an expectation to subvert the constitution just because they like the guy or what he stands for. We have the 14th, and that is what applies here. Cenk, a non-US born citizen, should not be on the presidential ballot. A 30 yo shouldn't be on the presidential ballot, and same goes for the insurrectionists. Should the voters get their say and put Cenk on? what about a college student?

My point is that....... Trump, incited an insurrection, he puts America at risk, he is out for revenge, he is a liar, he is a financial disaster to the country, he treats women with little to zero respect, he criticized our own military, he panders to the wealthy, he admitted to not paying his taxes, on Christmas day he said his enemies could "rot in hell", he hasn't accepted that he rightfully lost the 2020 presidential election, he mocks the handicapped, he patronizes known criminals, he has filed numerous bankruptcies, he has 91 felony counts against him, he is a convicted sexual predator, he is a draft dodger, he won an election based on a promise that he never fulfilled (border wall), he has several failed businesses, he stacked the Supreme Court in his favor, he did a very poor job during the height of COVID19, he has benefited from foreign countries during his presidency, he has maintained his election lies and denial for over 3 years now, he treats media and anyone that disagrees with his philosophy with disrespect, he gave his family high level government jobs that they were not qualified for, he doesn't know the geographic outlay of the United States, he continually mispronounces major American landmarks, he is physically unfit, he uses social media to bully and belittle his opponents, he has an estranged relationship with his wife, he has appeared on Jeffrey Epsteins list of visitors, he put the nation in deeper debt than any other president in history, he is responsible for several of his colleagues losing their incomes, and some even serving prison sentences, he is homophobic, he is a racist,............

I don't understand why some dems don't like Biden. We would have had that inflation regardless of who was in the WH. The economy right now is waay stronger than when trump left office. Inflation is down, unemployment is low, gdp is up, wages are up, and the stock market has been chugging along quite well. Why the hate?

@skutfarcus :
good question, skut.
for me, I don't want Biden purely because of his age. I think he's done a lot of good things to turn the ship around. I wish he had done more, but I really can't cry about a half-full glass of milk when the GOP wants to just spill all the milk.
If it's Biden/Trump, we have a really old guy with a half-glass of milk on one side, and a slightly less old guy with a spilled glass of milk... in a toilet.

I'd rather not have him also, but if we're stuck with him, why wouldn't a dem vote for him?

@AverageSue : Given few, if any other viable options, if it is a Biden - Trump choice, then Biden it is. Count me in the Never Trump camp.

@RambleOn : I feel the same way. I am not crazy about Joe Biden being the candidate for the Democratic party,... but when it comes to Joe Biden VS. Trump,..... I will vote for Joe Biden every time. And there isn't a sliver of a thought otherwise.

Trump Ordered to Pay The New York Times Hundreds of Thousands Over 'Frivolous' Lawsuit

A New York state judge ordered former President Donald Trump to pay The New York Times a six-figure legal fee over a now-dismissed lawsuit he brought against the paper.

Trump faces another loss at court with a $392,638.69 fine to pay for the journalists' legal fees, according to Time's reporter Susanne Craig, who slammed the lawsuit in which she was included as "frivolous."

In May 2023, New York Supreme Court Justice Robert R. Reed dismissed a lawsuit brought forward by Trump against the Times and three of its reporters. The Republican leader had tried to sue the Times in 2021 over their Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting on Trump's financial portfolio. Reed ruled that the Times reporters were "entitled to engage in legal and ordinary news-gathering activities without fear or tort liability - as their actions are at the very core of protected first amendment activity."

At the time, the judge noted that Trump's legal claims in the lawsuit "fail as a matter of constitutional law." Craig, one of the reporters listed in the original lawsuit, shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, about Trump's latest legal trouble.

According to the judge's decision, over $229,000 of the $392,000 legal fee must be paid to Craig and Times reporter Russell Buettner while Trump must pay $162,717 to journalist David Barstow.

As of publishing, Trump has not issued a statement via social media or a spokesperson reacting to the latest legal development.
