I fear that "Europe" is a broad brush to paint with this comment. Nationalistic, racially intolerant and religious discriminatory sentiments have taken hold very strongly in France and Germany.
Further, those same voices are spreading fast through what could be considered relatively tolerant countries. Much of this muck is being emboldened by the activities going on here in the US - global leader that we are. Sadly, small embers are equally being fanned by Russia who revels in destabilization anywhere it can see it done.
The conflict in front of us is not a national one, or one of states - it isn't one country against another - it is a philosophy of principles that must be influential and brave in voice at the individual level. When we know our government is wrong - we must say it. And when we are faced by someone who doesn't, can't or won't see the wrongs that are being committed - we are duty bound to say so boldly and bravely despite the discomfort it causes us in the moment. It is too late to negotiate on 'some of what is happening is good' - no good is coming from this nad it must be stopped!
