why are my serrano peppers not hot?

Maybe they are not serranos? Chef Jeff?...

Too much water?

Not enough water?

Well, we had lots of rain (so too much water, perhaps) and then there's also the fact they went dry from my lack of attention (so too little water, perhaps)?? LOLWhen I got the seedlings they said they were serranos and they look like serranos.

Too much water, hot peppers love slightly acidic soil, too many leaves and too many peppers for the plant to support. I have a friend who always cuts the tops of of his hot pepper plants so they more resemble a bush. Says it makes them hotter. I dunno. Truth? Wives, tale? In theory it makes sense. However, several years ago I had two ghost pepper plants get over 4 feet tall, the plant was loaded with peppers, and they were brutally hot. But then again, they were planted in my parent's garden and everything grows exceptionally well there....except blueberries....the one thing my mom can't get to grow LOL
Right now I have two Thai Chili plants about 30" high planted there, they are loaded, and are pushing my comfortable heat eating range.
