Scary Pre-Thanksgiving night
My daughter and son-in-law had just arrived in Pekin from their home in Springfield for the holiday, when they got a call/text from their Comcast security that alarms were going off in their home. (They bought house in April, 2014, already had alarm system with it).
The neighborhood they live in is nice, just 5 minutes from the IL State Fairgrounds. A cop lives about 6 houses down from them.
Police had been dispatched to investigate. Police were there in minutes, said a door in garage was broke in, some jewelry found in driveway. So the couple dropped off their dog at his parents, and left right away to drive back to Springfield.
When they got back, apparently the burglar used a pry bar to pop off window off small garage door, enter the house through garage (they never locked that door), and was able to grab an heirloom jewelry box that belonged to my late mother with jewelry (nothing real expensive, but lots of custom-made pendants) and a smaller jewelry box. The robbers bypassed a laptop sitting on a coffee table, lots of DVDs and a HDTV. It's possible the burglar just got out the back door to the yard when police arrived. So far, it looks like jewelry was all that was taken, probably worth less than $200. They were staying home overnight, driving back to Pekin this morning for Thanksgiving.
The police will soon receive photographs from the Comcast security system (I never noticed any cameras on their house), so hope that will help catch the thief.
