Rest in peace, Dolly Parton. She was 80 years old. Even people who aren't country music fans can likely have fond memories of at least one of the songs she wrote or sang.

No kidding. I remember hearing some of her songs on Country radio WXCL at home, and later. I also distinctly remember my parents taking my sister and I to a concert (maybe part of Turkey Festival?) in Tremont that featured Porter Waggoner and her, probably when she was 20 or 21.
I also thought she did great acting in the movie "9-5", and performing the title track that became one of her biggest hits.
And she recorded a rock album about 3 or so years ago, covering many songs and collaborated with original singers. I've listened to it once, she did very good.
But her legacy will be her contributions to Country Music and her "Imagination Library" project. My daughters enjoyed her appearances on "Hannah Montana" with Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus. RIP Dolly

This is a surprise. The President has ordered all flags lowered to half staff in honor of her. Guess I was half expecting a rude comment from him on her passing, even though perhaps many don't know her political leanings. My opinion and mine alone, and again, we'll miss you Dolly!
