@RambleOn : Back in "the day", if there was no carrier for a route, it was the district manager's responsibility to deliver the papers until they found a carrier. My guess there probably aren't district managers anymore or they have so many routes to deliver they say "to hell with this crap"!

@AntiRanchDrssng : Home delivery is now all outsourced as a independent 3rd party contractor. So yes, "to hell with this crap" "Not our problem."

@kraziebill : Yeah, I know. Also back in the day when I delivered from 5th grade through high school, we weren't technically employees of the PJS....we were independent contractors who received a 1099. Yet, if the PJS received a complaint, they would dock us a $1 per complaint. A dollar in 1974 was a lot of money to a 11 year old.

Found out from wife that her mom's missing newspapers were being delivered to the house next door. My wife bought one yesterday, but her mom got hers, so she brought it home. My wife couldn't believe how thin it was, even for a Saturday paper.

@DennisinPeoria :
It gets thinner plus the print gets larger=less news.

Paper showed up on my driveway today about 12 noon. First time in over a month. Color me shocked. 😲 It actually felt weird sitting down to read it.

@CCubs : My parents actually got one this morning. My mom said she can't believe she paid money "for a couple sheets of paper".

The Sunday paper was probably the smallest Sunday paper that I have ever seen. That would be OK if the content was good.

I also found out from my parents that the Convenient store on Meadows Avenue in EP not too far from them doesn't get their allotment of papers to sell some days. I don't know if these are dropped by the carrier or the PJ Star main delivery vehicle.

If the PJS can't make deliveries, why not just go out of business? You (supposedly) offer a product, charge in advance for it, but can't deliver said product. Sounds like a recipe for a FAILED business.

Sometimes I think it might be better if they did just go out of business. Maybe we could get a local independent paper. And maybe it would be an open door for other media outlets to ramp up the local news stories. 🤔

@AntiRanchDrssng : My wife has said that's happened to the Morton Kroger sometimes too.

@DennisinPeoria : Doesn't surprise me a bit since they and my parents are about 2.5 miles apart.

@CCubs :
Excellent point. Some of us have thought that, perhaps, they know of a media outlet that might come in and start up a local paper. But the PJ Star wants, for whatever reason, to protect their turf.

Know of a couple of Walgreens that still gets fairly regular deliveries of papers to sell. Problem is that sometimes the papers that are delivered are a day or two old. It happened enough that the dates on the papers are checked before the driver leaves. This problem just started a few weeks ago,

Just noticed this thread has been read over 1000 times!!!

Some folks don't know that the printing press at the Peoria Journal Star building actually prints some fairly large papers for other areas. I know Decatur and Springfield are 2 of them.

I used to joke that the Peoria paper was printed on the others scraps.
