More PJStar complaints.
I finally broke down and paid for an online subscription. It's no better that the print version. There's no option to cancel your service online, you have to call. What bs! I'm guessing that when I call, I'll be put on hold so long, they figure I'll give up.

@skutfarcus :
Most likely they will offer you a rate that is lower than anything you can find now. However, before that they might do a survey of " a few questions" before they make the offer.
I understand that with an online subscription they don't tell you that you have to call to cancel until after you have subscribed.

I don't mind it online, but if I couldn't' also access the actual paper online, I would cancel. I'm unable to throw in the towel, because I don't know where else I would get local news.

if it's easy to switch CC information online, you could switch to a temporary card number from a service like privacy.com, select 1-time use, and that'd be your last pmt.

I purchased an item from an online store I'm not familiar with, used a number from privacy.com. There are limited options for 1-time use cards. I think you get x-number a month for free. it's a legit site. Used a handful of times and has been great.

@AverageSue :
Because of things like this, some credit card cos. have a feature where you can lock your credit card when your not using it. It's simple to use, just log into your account and either lock it or unlock it. If someone tries to charge something while it's locked, charge won't go through. You can lock it for as long as you want. Even if you call customer service they will not unlock it. You have to do it yourself. A wonderful feature.

To me, the online version is worth it just to be able to read their FB posts and hear people gripe that they can't read them! We still have a few local reporters who need to have their salaries paid.

My parents are still fighting with them. Mom used to write a check at the end of August to renew Sept.-Aug. for a year. She has been doing that for decades. They say she owes them $40 and won't renew it until it is paid. Mom tells them that is crap and she should have at least that much in credit for all the missed deliveries that she's called in (which, of course they have no records of). Makes them no difference, really. Their neighbor brings the paper over when they are done reading it.

@AntiRanchDrssng : The renewal says up to 52 weeks, which means they can do whatever they want. Mine expires Saturday and I'm still beating them down on the price. At $237 for a year as of today

Went to renew my subscription today, as it expires tomorrow. Tried to do it online but it wouldn't go thru, called and was told the price on the bill I got was not right and it would be more because of
a new rate increase last week. Told them after 45 years I've had enough and tomorrow was the end enough is enough

Sad when it comes to point! They are going to end up being a print shop, if they survive at all.

@RambleOn : Why would you send a bill and not honor it 2 weeks later? The paper has been going downhill for a while now

@goob : Because they have to make more money from people who still get the paper to make up from all of those whom they have screwed over and quit.

@AntiRanchDrssng : Give them another year and I'll bet the subscribers are half of what they are today, I'll miss reading Phil and the obits, but I'll get over it

I get a new debit card in a couple weeks. They're going to have a hard time renewing my on line subscription.
