@bn13814:
It is nothing against Bloomington but this really comes as no surprise. If you follow Frontier,recently, they announced some things that are a bit outside the box thinking, at least in aviation circles. They have announced some interesting new routes including new routes from IAD,among other places,with less than daily service. The bottom line is that the planes have to come from somewhere to do the flying. There are only so many planes in an airlines fleet and so I guess you could say they have to rob Peter to pay Paul and so it goes.
@billybob:
That may be true. Frontier's Cleveland and Washington DC (Dulles) "focus cities" are already under way, but future expansion is likely. CIRA might be a good market for Frontier, but there are many others that are better.
Of course, Frontier did this with Rockford, making its Denver service seasonal then dropping it altogether. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happened at CIRA.
The effect on Peoria will be interesting to watch. Come January 2015, United Express will have the Central Illinois-Denver market to itself again for at least a couple of months, or longer. Fares may rise, but planes might be fuller too.
