Davenport and Dubuque are other places that have redone their waterfronts. We keep hearing good things about Davenport. They also have two restored hotels now operated by Marriott a few blocks from the Waterfront.

Mahkno : I think the local rowing and kayaking clubs put it at the Ivy Club.

@skutfarcus : I usually put in at Spindler. Learned my lesson to row upstream first then let the current help rowing back after going down to East Port first one time.

skutfarcus : I have a friend who uses Detweiller Marina.

@AntiRanchDrssng : What's the scoop with that Marina? Is it not owned by the park district anymore?

I've heard several calls on the scanner involving some rude security there and a few days ago the fire dept put our a large unapproved brush fire.

Several posts on FB of people claiming to been chased off by the "new owners"

@kraziebill: I really have no idea. I just know he puts in at the North end of the marina as he can walk in a one person kayak. No one has ever chased him off as far as I know or he has never mentioned it. I have rode my bike several times through it on the riverfront trail, and I haven't even seen anybody to run me off 🤷🤷🤣🤣

@PeoriaChronicle :
I'm wondering why it's necessary to move it. They have all the infrastructure there for power, lighting, sound--now they're going to take that out and move it a few yards? I'm just curious what their thinking is.

@PeoriaChronicle : If you're talking about the CEFCU stage, it needs to be moved or re-designed, It's all concrete stage and viewing area. Outside of the water view, has to be one of the worst venues, I've ever been to.

@FrankGort : I've been to shows there (and played shows there, for that matter), and I didn't find it that objectionable. Why don't you like it? Just because it's cement?

Anyone else watch the presentation at the city council? What did you think? I found it humorous, as did Chuck Grayeb, that it's going to cost somewhere between 13 and 25 million. That's a pretty wide disparity and they don't seem to know how it's going to be funded, but a capital campaign is likely.

As long as they don't mess with Constitution Garden or the Dorothy Sinclair Grove! I like the solitude that is generally found there.

IDK what would make you want to go downtown to the river front. Events weekly. Building up a community.

There are always great IDEAS floating around for this area in particular. Some of those have already happened and succeeded. Others seemed to be can't miss , yet they did. Just ask Damon's, Old
Chicago, and Joe's Crab Shack( to name but a few ). Anyone familiar with downtown Peoria for any length of significant time, who now maintains there is nothing to do, has simply not paid attention in the past 10-20 years. Examples? RiverPlex, Museum, college and pro sports, Civic Center, new and exciting restaurants plus bars, a host of summer events… and I could go on. It's simply NOT true that downtown Peoria has not enough to do. Rather, it's a hard-to-swallow case of flight from our city limits and therefore a gradual erosion of our tax base. A good number of those fleeing people are "escaping" just beyond our taxing boundaries. Yet, they work and gladly "play" in Peoria proper. Without their property tax revenues flowing in, the pittance they may pay in ticket prices, entry fees, etc….. hardly make up the difference that the city needs. Hence, a continuing erosion of the city's ability to keep up budgetarily. I like the ideas presented, but they will likely not succeed long-term unless our population within city limits grows and then stays put.

@Turnit10 : Peoria is going to have to find a way to bring in new homeowners. As it is, it's cheaper for folks to move into the bedroom communities. Better schools, better roads, lower crime, and cheaper to boot. Peoria's fine to come and "play" in, buts it's not really considered a good place to raise a family.

Tell that to the number of people moving into lofts in the Warehouse District. We're getting told there's over 1,000 people moving down there. Maybe not exactly for families, but singles and couples perhaps.
