Power outages....

Seems a little discomforting that Peoria experiences 2 power outages this morning (1 along/near Kroger's on Sterling and the other downtown around the twin towers) and it wipes out several FM radio stations.

According to Ameren's site it's only affecting about 1100 people total, so I would consider them small, almost tiny

They're called GENERATORS people...get one.

What good is it for all of these public safety officials and the Red Cross to tell me to have a battery operated radio in my supply kit when there's nothing to tune to when the power is out?

All the Alpha Media stations based in Civic Center Plaza were off. I can't believe they don't have a genny.

What I think is funny is the actual transmitter towers have generators, but not the originating studios/signal source.

What spend money for something that may happen and deprive the investors of extra profit. Would think FCC would make it mandatory since they are suppose to support local area with information.

Sure hope we don't have a major problem with our electricity. People would kill one another.

I suspect at one time an FCC license would have required certain continuity of service requirements for the emergency broadcast system. But, regulations are bad for business, so we don't need them.

From my understanding the power outage on Sterling was related to individuals breaking into cars in Golden Acres. The PPD was contacted. Unfortunately the suspects hit a transformer and fled the police.

Apparently there is a rumor going around that the downtown outage was some kind of sabotage.

Usually in a sabotage power outage, the suspect quickly becomes a victim of his own sabotage. Emoticon
